During the past year, the Agricultural Bank in Homs granted loans worth 3 billion and 361 million pounds, an increase of more than 2 billion pounds over the previous year, of which 900 million pounds were to finance the establishment of solar energy equipment for agricultural work, according to the director of the Agricultural Bank, Eng. Muhammad al-Ahmad.
In a statement to SANA, Al-Ahmad explained that the increase in the values of lending during the past year is a result of the increased demand for the purchase of tractors and solar energy equipment.
Al-Ahmad pointed out that the total financial deposits with the bank amounted to 10.5 billion pounds, from various public, private, and cooperative sectors, while the value of financial withdrawals amounted to 9.8 billion pounds.
Al-Ahmad said: During the past month, fertilizers were sold to farmers at a rate of 25 percent of the entire needs of the wheat crop from the nitrogen fertilizer “urea - ammonium nitrate”, while the entire amount of super phosphate fertilizer will be distributed, indicating that during the past year 1815 tons of fertilizer were sold. Fertilizers, and 2 billion and 303 million Syrian pounds were disbursed, the value of damage to almond and apple crops, benefiting 4,700 farmers.
A number of farmers talked about the importance of increasing financing for the establishment of alternative energy systems intended for agricultural and animal production purposes, because of their positive repercussions in reducing labor costs, especially fuel, while others demanded an increase in the value of loans and a reduction in interest in light of the high prices of agricultural work requirements.
