Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner awards the honorary office prize to long-time AWO helper Elfi Rupp.

It's a belated award.

Wolfratshausen – She is the oldest resident of the AWO retirement home on Paradiesweg and has been indispensable there as a helper in the “Coffee Club” for 32 years.

In July, 91-year-old Elfriede Rupp was to receive the honorary work award in gold awarded by the city for her services.

"Unfortunately, her illness with the corona virus prevented that in the summer," Ludwig Gollwitzer regretted.

The laudator at the time was therefore happy to come to the Christmas party of the local association of workers' welfare (AWO) in the rafting shop in order to catch up on things that had been missed five months later together with Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner.

"You are the golden soul of the coffee club," explained Gollwitzer.

The former culture officer met Elfi Rupp when she was still serving customers in the former Isar department store on Untermarkt.

Now she organizes the coffee club every Tuesday afternoon and also sparkled with joie de vivre at the subsequent ceremony.

Previously, the AWO local chairwoman Gerlinde Berchtold had looked back on an eventful year in which meetings and educational trips were possible again.

In May, for example, an AWO group traveled to Lake Garda for four days and experienced cultural highlights there.

For the future, Berchtold hopes that the groundbreaking ceremony for the new dementia center will take place soon.

AWO local association supports many areas in Wolfratshausen

The main tasks of the local association, which has been active in Wolfratshausen since 1946, include support for the disabled, senior citizens, kindergartens, psychiatric clinics and refugees.

As guests at the end-of-year celebration, Gerlinde Berchtold welcomed the head of the AWO dementia center, Frank Hörmann, as well as the children from the Waldram daycare center "Giraffe House", who recited Christmas carols and a poem.

Ludwig Gollwitzer rewarded them with sweets in their Santa Claus costume and then recited two poems for the adults.
