The Tölz pub "Double In" also benefits from the current enthusiasm for the sport of darts.
Recently, 30 interested people came to the bar to follow the World Cup.
Bad Tölz
– With his sensational entry into the semi-finals of the Darts World Cup in London, Gabriel Clemens from Saarland got Germany into darts fever.
The wave of enthusiasm also reached the Tölzer darts pub "Double in" on Königsdorfer Straße.
Landlord Helmut Winkler (50) hopes that interest in the sport will last.
Mr. Winkler, were you also rooting for the Darts World Cup?
In any case.
For the semifinals on Tuesday, I even opened out of turn.
About 30 people were there to watch the semifinals together and duly celebrated and cheered on Gabriel Clemens.
Unfortunately it wasn't enough.
German player Gabriel Clemens duly cheered on in the Tölzer "Double In".
Do you also feel the current enthusiasm for darts in your local area?
Definitive.
In the past twelve months I've already noticed a clear upswing, and I'm pleased about that.
After all, I've been playing darts myself for 33 years and I've been running the "Double In" for 17 years.
It is striking that young people show interest again and again.
Several young people between the ages of 18 and 21 were also there for our “warm-up” before the semi-finals.
Most of them then play soft darts – I prefer steel darts myself.
Why? What is the difference?
With e-darts, the points are calculated electronically.
In steel darts you keep a book with chalk and blackboard.
I love steel darts because you throw more accurately, also with the right strength, because the dart also has to get stuck in order for the points to count, while the machine counts points even if the dart hits the ground.
And by the way, mental arithmetic is the order of the day at steel darts.
It's mentally more demanding.
And the atmosphere is completely different.
While in "Ally Pally" (the darts palace "Alexandra Palace" in London, where the World Cup was played, editor's note. Red) party to the power of 10, you can in the Bundesliga at a steel darts game hear the needle drop.

My space
Who generally plays darts in the "double in"?
During the year I have my regular guests and twelve league teams with five to six people each play with me.
They train on Wednesdays and Thursdays and play the league games on Fridays and Saturdays.
The teams come from all over the region - for example Tölz, Lenggries, Penzberg, Weilheim - and play in six or seven different leagues.
At the same time, I myself am the league secretary, which means I organize the Bavaria Dartliga with 85 teams for the German Sports Machines Association.
Three to four big darts tournaments a year in Bad Tölz
So there is obviously a lively darts scene in the Oberland.
Definitive.
I also organize three to four major tournaments a year, in which well-known PDC players (PDC is the association "Professional Darts Corporation", editor's note) take part, such as Max Hopp or "Little John" Rodriguez.
For this I usually look for halls that I run myself, such as the triple gymnasium on Jahnstrasse.
And since anyone interested can watch?
Yes, and you can also play yourself if you are brave enough, these are open tournaments.
When else do you have the chance to play against a PDC player?
