On January 1st, 2023, both "Das Traumschiff" and "Tatort" were shown.
The ARD crime series won the TV duel with ease.
The ZDF format with Florian Silbereisen had to accept disappointing numbers.
Cologne – In order to herald the start of the new year properly, two top-class German TV productions flickered across the screens on the evening of January 1, 2023.
ARD showed the latest episode of "Tatort" from Cologne with "Protection Measures", while the "Traumschiff" sailed towards the Bahamas on ZDF.
Both formats have been spot-on guarantors of ratings for decades – and bring the whole family together for film evenings, especially on public holidays.
Better a thriller than a cruise: ARD beats the ZDF dream ship in a ratings duel with “Tatort”.
The two TV events on New Year's Day could hardly have been more different.
In the Cologne "crime scene" with Klaus J. Behrendt (62) and Dietmar Bär (61), an arson attack is carried out on a Persian restaurant, while the luxury ship, steered by Florian Silbereisen (41), drives on the waves towards a tropical sunset.
Dramatic and rousing or romantic and rich in images – there was something for every taste from the major stations.
Since 1997, Klaus J. Behrendt and Dietmar Bär have been in front of the camera together at the Cologne crime scene.
With their latest adventure, they overtook dream ship captain Max Parger, aka Florian Silbereisen in terms of quota.

If the ARD and the ZDF otherwise deliver a rapid race for the ratings win, one of the two TV greats was able to easily win the duel this time.
As reported by
dwdl.de
, the "crime scene" was able to reach 8.71 million viewers and thus a market share of 26.8 percent, while the "dream ship" only attracted 5.51 million people to the boob tube - which is a rather mixed market share of 17.0 percent.
Seems like the German television audience felt more like criminal investigation than cruising on the first day of the new year.
Season after season: These German TV series have been running forever
"In All Friendship" (ARD): Since 1998
"Alam for Cobra 11" (RTL): Since 1996
"Wilsberg" (ZDF): Since 1995
"Unter Uns" (RTL): Since 1994
"Good Times, Bad Times" (RTL): Since 1992
"Großstadtrevier" (ARD): Since 1986
"A Case for Two" (ZDF): Since 1981
"The Old One" (ZDF): Since 1977

Declining ratings: ZDF hit "Das Traumschiff" has been losing viewers since 2021
Many formats would certainly be happy with viewership of over five million, but for the ZDF production, which has been running since November 22, 1981, the ratings must have been a bitter disappointment.
Because as
dwdl.de
further reports, there should have been one million more "Traumschiff" viewers in 2022, and in 2021 even more than seven million.
Nevertheless, there is a ray of hope for the broadcaster based in Mainz: Because the dream ship offshoot “Cruise into Happiness” was able to overtake the crime format “Kommissar Wisting” running in parallel on ARD at 9:45 p.m. with 4.10 million viewers.

ARD clearly won this round of the ratings duel, proving once again that the “crime scene” is still far from slowing down, even after more than 50 years and 1,200 episodes.
In addition to mixed reactions from the fans and mediocre numbers, the "Dream Ship" is not the first defeat for Florian Silbereisen, because his "Schlager of the Year" could hardly attract spectators.
