Winter is a long time coming.

Temperatures will remain mild, but instead it will be wet and stormy.

The DWD warns of hurricane-force gusts.

Munich – Winter should actually be in full swing, but the view out of the window makes you doubt the time of year.

Instead of cold, snow and frost, January got off to an extremely mild start, almost like spring.

In the Alps, ski lift operators have to close their facilities or have not been able to open them at all.

But instead of the hoped-for winter weather, it is now getting stormy, at least in Germany.

The DWD warns of stormy gusts of up to 74 km/h on the coasts and on the North Sea.

The same applies to the mountains, in the highest areas there can even be hurricane-force gusts.

The wind is accompanied by heavy showers in many parts of Germany, in the Black Forest and western Oberallgäu the DWD warns of continuous rain.

"One storm after the other is crossing Germany with a lot of wind and storm potential," warns meteorologist Dominik Jung to

Storm depression "Axel": The weather remains grey, wet and uncomfortable

The storm "Axel" eases a little towards the weekend, only in the summit areas there can still be severe gusts of wind.

The rain showers continue, the sun rarely shows up and the gray overcast sky will probably stay for a while.

It won't be that cold though.

During the nights it is supposed to cool down to just 9 to 1 degrees, only at the edge of the Alps does the thermometer drop to 0 degrees.

Weather in Germany: It's getting freezing cold in Eastern Europe

The possible onset of winter is therefore still missing.

"After the first three days, January is a whopping 9.1 degrees warmer than the average climate," explains Jung to

wetter.net

.

"As announced by NOAA in the summer of 2022, the winter of 2022/23 is well on the way to becoming one of the warmest winters since 1881." According to calculations by NOAA, the American weather and oceanographic agency, January, February and March far too warm.

In Eastern Europe this is not the case for the time being.

It's supposed to get freezing cold there in the next few days.

The Baltic countries have to reckon with permafrost, in Moscow it should be down to -28 degrees.

But this weather will not reach the rest of Europe, the winter wonderland will not come here for the time being.
