A8: Munich loses bike from trailer – Radl hits seven cars

It probably happened suddenly: A bicycle broke away from the trailer of a Munich resident when he was driving on the A8.
Seven following cars could no longer avoid.
Sauerlach – Early on Wednesday evening, January 4th, around 7 p.m., a 61-year-old man from Munich was driving his Volvo car on the A8 towards Munich – a rear bicycle carrier was mounted on the vehicle and loaded with a high-quality bicycle.
The accident took its course just before the Hofoldinger Forst junction: For reasons that were not yet known, the expensive bicycle fell off the rear carrier and fell onto the motorway.

This happened so suddenly for several of the following vehicle drivers that they no longer had a chance to safely avoid the obstacle.
Most of the drivers were able to bring their cars to a standstill on the hard shoulder immediately after the scene of the accident.
The police found a total of seven damaged vehicles, including a truck-trailer combination.
The material damage to the lost bike, which is a total loss, is around 4,000 euros.
The damaged vehicles suffered property damage totaling around 3,000 euros.
Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of running over the lost cargo or evasive maneuvers.
A8 closed for an hour after accidents
A car was no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away, and the damaged truck trailer had to have its tires changed on site.
In addition to two police patrols, the Hofolding fire brigade with three vehicles and 18 emergency services and the Holzkirchen motorway maintenance department were also deployed.
The hard shoulder and the right-hand lane had to be closed for about an hour while the accident was being recorded and the road cleaned.
However, the traffic obstructions were limited, the police write in a statement.
