Today, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced that Minsk and Moscow continue to strengthen the regional grouping of their forces on the territory of Belarus.
Sputnik quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: “As part of ensuring the military security of the Union State, and based on the current situation, this process is taking place in stages, as personnel, weapons, and military and special equipment of the armed forces will continue to arrive on Belarusian territory.”
The statement indicated that more combat coordination activities were planned with the units coming to the training areas in the republic, in addition to work to improve the level of combat training for the aviation units of the armed forces of the two countries, pointing out that joint tactical flight exercises are scheduled to be conducted.
The Ministers of Defense of Russia and Belarus, Sergey Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin, had previously signed in Minsk a protocol on amending the joint agreement signed in 1997 between the two countries, regarding the provision of joint regional security in the military field.
