Mexico confirmed this Thursday the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, son of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, who is considered one of the leaders of the Sinaloa cartel, and
for whose capture the United States offered 5 million dollars.
The high-profile arrest occurred early Thursday morning in Culiacán, Sinaloa (northern Mexico) and sparked violent episodes: blocked roads, shootings that left several officers injured, vehicle fires.
An Aeroméxico plane was even shot at.
Ovidio Guzmán
had already been arrested in 2019
, but at that time the authorities released him after saying that they sought to stop the violence after his arrest.

This was the violent military operation to recapture Ovidio Guzmán, alias 'El Ratón'
General Sandoval, Mexico's Secretary of Defense, reported Thursday from the National Palace in the capital that
the operation was the result of a six-month investigative effort between various
local and federal government agencies and that it was carried out by agents of the National Guard and the Army.
