When the sun is blinding, the risk of accidents on the roads increases.
The area traffic police Schongau explains what drivers should heed.
County – Drivers know the situation: early in the morning the sun is shining, it's cold, they have to go to work, scrape the car windows, drive off and - see nothing.
The sun is so low in the direction of travel that it is extremely blinding.
It's even worse when the windows fog up from the inside.
"If you start driving now, it's like a life-threatening blind flight," warns the Schongau area traffic watch in a statement.
The risk of accidents and hazards in road traffic is greatly increased.
“Because of the restricted view due to the glare from the sun, the driver can no longer sufficiently perceive the traffic situation;
other road users, as well as traffic signs and traffic lights, are difficult to see," says the traffic patrol.
In order to ensure road safety as best as possible and to reduce the risk of danger and accidents, the association lists behavior that drivers should heed when the low-lying sun dazzles them:
Clean the windshield regularly and reduce the risk of accidents
Keep windows clean: When the sun shines in, every streak and stain on the windscreen comes out.
The dirt scatters the light and visibility from the car is poor.
In addition, the moisture settles particularly well on the dirt particles.
The windows fog up more easily.
The windscreen and the rear window in particular should therefore be thoroughly cleaned on the inside and outside on a regular basis.
Also regularly check the contents of the windscreen washer system and clean the wiper blades!
Put a dehumidifier in the car: A dehumidifier on the dashboard removes moisture from the air and the windows no longer fog up as easily.
The regional traffic patrol advises: Always drive slowly and keep your distance
Drive slowly: The road traffic regulations oblige drivers to adapt their driving behavior to visibility and weather conditions.
Drivers must therefore be cautious and alert when visibility is limited and, in particular, adjust their speed.
Keep your distance: In order to be able to brake and stop safely and in good time at all times, it is necessary to keep the prescribed minimum distance to the vehicle in front in addition to reducing your speed.

Use sunglasses: Having sunglasses, especially polarizing sunglasses, handy in the car is also useful in winter and autumn.
The polarizing lenses help block out reflected light.
They are also effective against glare from bright headlights and reflections on wet roads.
