That brings 2023 in Weßling: Michael Sturm is looking forward to moving.

Weßling

- Elementary school construction, local development, environmental protection, childcare and finances, these topics will occupy space in Weßling in 2023 - and they are closely intertwined.

Things remain exciting when it comes to elementary school: "The children and teachers will move into the elementary school this year," says Mayor Michael Sturm resolutely.

primary school building

Almost 30 years of discussions preceded its construction.

In the spring of 2021, the excavators finally rolled over the area on Meilinger Weg.

Today there is a stately wooden building, the roof is on it, the windows are in, and people are busy working inside.

Originally, the school children were supposed to move in after the Whitsun holidays in 2023.

Delivery problems with building materials, especially wood, led to delays and caused construction costs to rise.

They are estimated at around 18 million euros today, originally they were 15 million euros.

That's not pleasant, "but unfortunately normal in these times, it's the same for everyone," says Sturm.

The move-in should now be after the summer holidays in 2023.

"Even if the program is sporty until then," as Sturm admits.

The new primary school opens up new possibilities in other places.

The municipal council has agreed to let the old school buildings in Weßling and Oberpfaffenhofen, which will become vacant in the summer, to traders and clubs for the time being.

This benefits the tenants and relieves the community of maintenance.

The municipality can then calmly consider what should happen to the property in the long term.

local development

Local development will take up space in 2023, especially in Oberpfaffenhofen.

Sturm would like a concept for the important properties and areas.

"A framework plan with citizen participation is to be drawn up in 2023." He imagines a town center "which is interesting and attractive for the citizens".

The current schoolyard could be preserved as a meeting place, and the school could possibly become a children's home.

"It has to be a good mix.

We have a lot of leeway.” The planning for the main street in Wessling is already done.

The municipal council commissioned the planner for its redesign shortly before Christmas.

Sturm is proud that things are continuing in Kesselboden in Oberpfaffenhofen: twelve affordable apartments are to be built there.

Planning is scheduled to be completed in 2023 and construction to begin in 2024.

Sturm is particularly pleased that the municipality was able to purchase around 4,800 square meters of land at Argelsrieder Straße 1 in spring 2022.

Affordable housing is also available there.

One thing is finally clear: "Private builders and property developers are almost never interested in social housing." In this respect, he is particularly happy that the site-defining property is in the hands of the community.

However, the municipality does not get anything for free either: “It all costs a lot of money and is only possible with the support of funding programs.”

power supply

Local development also includes the energy supply, for which the municipality is examining various options.

The geothermal energy project of the municipalities of Gilching and Gauting, to which the municipality of Wessling also wants to attach itself, and local heating are under discussion.

"We're talking about geothermal energy, that could work," says Sturm.

The Argelsried field can certainly be supplied with it.

And where geothermal energy is not sufficient, local heating is up for discussion.

childcare

Gone are the days when there were not enough kindergarten places in Wessling.

In May 2019, almost 30 missing places made the headlines, and in 2022 there wasn't even a waiting list.

"Childcare is important and valuable, which is why around 60 educators work in the community care facilities," says Sturm.

There is also a large day care facility, which is being set up this year on the airport grounds together with the Gilching municipality.

So far, the 20 children who have to be cared for in two groups have been distributed in Gilching and Gauting. There were delays in the construction of the Aero-Building GmbH premises.

This year, however, things can start there.

In this context, Sturm expresses his gratitude for the cooperation with the large neighbor Gilching.

"It's going very well."

In total, the municipality of Weßling pays 1.3 million euros per year for childcare.

"That's a lot of money well invested.

Nevertheless, we want to create more places soon enough.” Sturm also wants a crèche for every district, “we will look at that when the school buildings are used”.

finance

In 2022, trade tax revenue was already below the expected amount, and Sturm does not expect the situation to get any better in 2023.

In order to balance the income, Sturm would very much like to initiate the development plan for Argelsrieder Feld III in 2023.

The area between the residential complex for asylum and the current commercial area has been under discussion for up to 14 years.

“The topic will be back at the meeting in January,” announced Sturm.

However, the development plan needs to be revised.

Concern makes storm the development of the district surcharge.

The municipalities are the last link in the chain, and the amount of the district levy is completely incalculable.

The district makes costly decisions "and we have to pay".

For this reason, the municipality of Weßling has stopped considering expanding the cycle path through the forest to Steinebach, for example.

"Much too expensive," said the municipal councils, reports Sturm.

The modern loudspeaker and microphone system for the meeting room has also been eliminated, it would have cost 20,000 euros.

parking space

Municipalities are becoming more and more concerned with the issue of parking spaces, including in Wessling.

The municipality rents out around 25 parking spaces for mobile homes at Argelsrieder Feld, which costs between 20 and 30 euros a month, depending on the size of the vehicle.

This is obviously too expensive for many, and so the municipal councils in 2022 repeatedly grappled with a parking space concept.

Stopping bans have already been issued in some places in the village, and more will follow.

"People don't understand that a street is a public space that has to be maintained, which the public pays for." Before a piece of your own garden is ripped off, it's better to park your car on the street.

"Many feel treated unfairly when we put up signs." Wild parking can also harbor dangers:

For example, when the carpentry workshop in Hochstadt caught fire in December, the fire brigade had to ring the bell for residents on Angerweg at 3 a.m. because the emergency vehicles could not get through.

"Therefore, we will now identify a fire brigade access road." Sturm is amazed at how cheeky some car owners react.

There are also problems with parking spaces on the main street in front of the new residential and commercial building with a bakery.

Actually, there is an underground car park for the tenants.

The municipality will now identify short-term parking spaces in front of the building in the spring.

One of the best moments of 2022 came when Mayor Michael Sturm bought the area on Argelsrieder Straße, so he didn’t have to think twice about it.

"I'm very happy that the area belongs to us." And one of the most beautiful dates in 2022 were the weddings.

“There were a lot of people and there were a lot of people and families that I have known for a long time.

That was wonderful."
