Yesterday (4th) the Bureau of Transport and Logistics pointed out that flights from Hong Kong to Japan can use other Japanese airports other than the designated airports, but it did not mention whether there are passengers on board who have traveled to the mainland.

The Bureau of Transportation confirmed in its reply today (5th) that starting next Sunday (8th), even if there are passengers on board who have been to the mainland, flights can go to all airports in Japan, except for a few airports that do not have sufficient testing facilities.

In other words, the restrictions imposed by Japan on flights to Hong Kong at the end of last month have basically been lifted.

Japan once required Hong Kong flights to fly directly to designated airports if there are no passengers in the mainland

Starting from the 30th of last month, Japan will continue to carry passengers to Sapporo New Chitose Airport, Fukuoka Airport and Okinawa Naha Airport if it is confirmed that the passengers on board the flight from Hong Kong have not stayed in mainland China within 7 days.

It was also announced on January 4 that the number of airports applicable to the relevant measures was increased to seven airports including Narita, Haneda, Kansai and Central Nagoya.

In addition, Japan also pointed out at the time that airlines can only be based on the number of flights operated from December 23 to 29, 2022, and no additional flights can be added.

The Transportation Bureau said yesterday that Japan is willing to relax restrictions. From Sunday, flights from Hong Kong to Japanese airports will be able to use other Japanese airports other than Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Central Nagoya, New Chitose, Fukuoka and Naha.

In addition, airlines can also increase flights to Japanese airports.

The Transportation Bureau responded to inquiries today and stated that the Japanese government has confirmed that flights departing from Hong Kong can carry passengers who have been to mainland China to all Japanese airports starting from Sunday (8th), except for some airports that do not have sufficient quarantine facilities .

In other words, Japan has basically canceled the restrictions on Hong Kong flights announced in the past few days.

Cathay Pacific to increase to 70 pairs of flights to and from Japan per week

Cathay Pacific said that it is aware of the latest arrangements of the Japanese authorities on entry restrictions, and will adjust flights to meet market demand. In January, it will operate about 70 pairs of flights between Hong Kong and Japan per week.

Cathay Pacific said that it will resume flight CX588 on the following days to pick up passengers from Hong Kong to Fukuoka:

January 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19, 20, 21, 24, 26, 28, 31, and February 2, 2023.

Cathay Pacific also pointed out that it will resume the CX580 and CX581 flights between Hong Kong and Sapporo on January 23, 25 and February 1, 2023.

In addition, flight CX580 from Hong Kong to Sapporo will resume passenger service on January 9 and 30, 2023.
