From the dream of Tempo 30: Municipal council rejects CSU application

The CSU in Kirchheim has campaigned for a speed limit on Münchner Straße.

But nothing will come of it, the municipal council has rejected the application.

Kirchheim – From Tempo 30 on the Münchner Straße, between the Heimstettener Moosweg and the center of Kirchheim, nothing will come of it.

With 8:9 votes, the CSU parliamentary group lost with its application in the municipal council.

The majority agreed with the police opinion that the street was "unremarkable".

Already in the summer of 2021 there was an application for a speed limit on the road.

As the police announced at the time, the accident situation is "absolutely unremarkable".

In 2021, ten speed measurements were carried out on Münchner Straße, with the complaint rate at 2.74 percent being in the lower range and all speed violations being within the warning range.

The administration does not have any newer or different findings for the year 2022 either.

dangerous situation?

In addition, the “normal inner-city speed” of 50 km/h may only be changed and reduced where special circumstances make this absolutely necessary and it is absolutely necessary to avert danger.

However, such a dangerous situation is not evident on Münchner Strasse.

It is an inner-city priority road like many others in Germany.

On both sides there is a marked protective strip for cyclists, on the south side there is a continuous footpath.

Pedestrians can cross the road safely at three traffic lights and at a pedestrian crossing.

The CSU had argued that there had been an influx along the road through the new Hausen Süd construction area.

Accordingly, the Münchner Straße is gaining in importance as a route to school.

In addition, a new social facility has been created on Caramanico-Strasse, and a dementia flat-sharing community is planned in the Hausen Süd area.

"In order to take these developments into account and to increase the safety of the way to school, we want 30 km/h on the entire Münchner Straße," said CSU parliamentary group spokeswoman Beate Neubauer.

However, the other factions could not agree with this reasoning, followed the explanations of the police and municipal administration and rejected the application with a narrow majority.
