Today, the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs held a celebration that included the planting of 1,200 trees at the site of the Homs-Damascus international road at the Tartous detour, with the participation of a number of directorates, organizations, and civil and popular activities under the slogan “For a green future, we plant trees,” on the occasion of the 71st Tree Festival.
The Director of Agriculture, Eng. Younes Hamdan, told reporters that 2 hectares were planted with forest plantings of cypress and pine, in addition to casualina and eucalyptus, to complement the afforestation campaigns carried out by the governorate, indicating that the campaigns will be completed at the governorate level in addition to the campaign of five forest plantings until March. To implement the 112-hectare governorate plan, which includes planting 65,000 trees in all locations in the governorate.
For his part, the head of the Peasants Union branch in Homs, Suleiman Ezz El-Din, pointed out that the aim of the campaign is to encourage farmers to reforestation and fruitful forests in all areas, especially the areas from which terrorists removed trees by burning and cutting.
For his part, the head of the Workers Union in Homs, Hafez Khansar, stated that the union's participation comes from its social role and the participation of the local community within the campaign launched by the Directorate of Agriculture to restore our country as green as it was, stressing that the union will launch a campaign to plant trees in its empty areas, including fruit trees and forestry. and decoration.
For his part, the head of the Agricultural Development Syndicate in Homs, Eng. Haitham al-Ali, stressed the need to pay attention to planting trees, because fires and terrorist acts destroyed the largest percentage of them, and an alternative to them must be replanted.
The celebration was attended by the Governor of Homs, Engineer Namir Makhlouf, the Secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party branch, Omar Houria, and a number of directors of service departments.
