Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today (Thursday) that the foreign ministers of Ankara and Damascus will meet soon.
According to him, if the talks are positive - a summit between him and the Syrian ruler Bashar Assad will be held later.
Since the Syrian civil war, relations between Ankara and Damascus have deteriorated, among other things due to the occupation of territories in northern Syria by the Turkish army.

Erdogan explained that recently the intelligence chiefs of Turkey, Syria and Russia held "important negotiations", after which the defense ministers of the countries held another meeting.
This is in preparation for close talks between the foreign ministers.
"Ankara's goal is to promote peace and stability in our region," the Turkish president said.
