New figures: X-Bus to Bad Tölz is very well received

Eleven out of thousands: In the summer, the district administrators, mayors and tourism managers were convinced of its advantages on a tour with the express bus X970 from Starnberg to Bad Tölz.

They are now recognizing more and more bus users.

With up to 2,600 passengers per day, the X970 has meanwhile been very well received.

- At times it was a bit of a problem child, but the X970 express bus line from Starnberg via Wolfratshausen to Bad Tölz has blossomed.

The district office of Starnberg reported increasing passenger numbers after a year of operation of the line, which also connects the S-Bahn lines S 6 and S 7.

The evaluation of the number of passengers shows that the offer is equally well received by both everyday commuters and leisure passengers.

"I'm very pleased about that, because it gives us confirmation when it comes to selecting the route and the timing of the offers," explained District Administrator Stefan Frey.

It is a truism among public transport experts that new lines are not used right away and that it sometimes takes years to gain acceptance.

The following applies to the X970: On an average working day with school operations, the number of passengers in autumn 2022 has more than tripled compared to the beginning of 2022.

In January there were still an average of around 600 passengers per day, from September to November an average of more than 1900 per working day.

During the holiday season, August is the month with the most passengers on workdays - an average of more than 2000. The line was also used more and more over the course of the year at weekends: according to the district office in January there were still a good 800 X970 users, the highest value over 2,600 in July. And in November, over 2,100 people still took the express bus route at the weekend.

The reasons for the increases include the nine-euro ticket - the numbers did not go down after it ended.

The districts, which share the costs and are funded by the Free State, are happy with that.

Josef Niedermaier, District Administrator of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: “We are extremely pleased that the X970 has been so well received by our passengers within the first year.

Especially here in rural areas, the express bus, with its close frequency, direct routes and great comfort, is decisive for good mobility for the citizens.

In view of the expensive fuel prices and scarce parking spaces, you can safely leave your car and switch to environmentally and climate-friendly public transport.”

After the X970 now also stops at "Aufhausen", "Oberbiberkor", "Höhenrain", "Einöd", "Hechenberg, Abzw." and "Bad Tölz, Friedhof" with the timetable change on December 11th, more citizens are likely to use the The district representatives hope to recognize the advantages of the line and use it from now on.

The X970 runs every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 60 minutes on Sundays and public holidays.

For the district, the line is a connection to the Oberland and to the Bavarian regional train in Bad Tölz.
