The Berlin fire brigade publishes the balance of New Year's Eve, is "stunned and sad".

Meanwhile, the police are turning to the public with a request.

Update from January 4, 2023:

After the New Year's Eve riots in Berlin, the police called on citizens to send in photos and videos of attacks.

"Please support us in investigating crimes on New Year's Eve in Berlin," said the authority on Wednesday afternoon.

The search is therefore primarily for image and video recordings of attacks on emergency and rescue services.

You are also asked to provide information about the location and time of the recording.

The recordings can be uploaded online via a reference portal.

On New Year's Eve, emergency and rescue services in Berlin and other cities were massively attacked.

In some cases, the police had to be deployed to protect firefighters from attacks while they were putting out fires.

In the capital alone, 33 emergency services were injured and, according to the police, 145 people were arrested, but they were later released.

The violent attacks sparked a wide debate about the consequences.

Meanwhile, the police are publishing more information about the suspects - and their nationalities.

According to dpa, this has an impact on the number of operations.

In the early hours of the morning, the number of operations decreased.

Personnel operations have almost tripled.

This includes management services and staff on the guards as well as organizational units and the control center.

Volunteer fire brigades and rescue service personnel from the German Armed Forces also supported the operations.

Homrighausen: “There is no justification for this behavior and I can only condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

Anyone who rushes to help people in need and is then attacked must be protected.” The Berlin fire brigade reports that they have already provided extensive after-sales assistance.

All incidents are to be reported again this year.

New Year's Eve riots: police union calls for clarification

The German Police Union (DPolG) is also dealing with the riots on New Year's Eve.

"For many emergency services, the prevailing impression is that groups of young men with a migration background are far overrepresented in these riots," said Rainer Wendt, head of the DPolG,

.

It is now important to deal with the events.

Wendt argued that full clarification and naming is necessary so that right-wing populists do not use this impression for their own purposes.

On New Year's Eve, 15 emergency services from the Berlin fire brigade were injured.

One worker had to be hospitalized.

According to current knowledge, a total of 22 people in Berlin were injured by pyrotechnics.

About a dozen people were injured in the fires.

The Berlin fire brigade does not rule out further injuries.
