Opinion They work on us for our brides: the opposition against the state Israel today

2023-01-05T22:18:24.105Z

From American condemnation of Laban Gabir, through the cancellation of anti-tats to the fear of harm to LGBT people • The opposition, with the help of the media, does not miss an opportunity to spread fake news, even at the cost of international damage to Israel

The Israeli pays, and he doesn't even know.

For weeks now, the Israeli public has been inundated with fake news ("fake news"), and they are more numerous than all the floods of the rains.

Stupid, distorted news, detached from the truth, devoid of factual basis, fills the media, and there is no mouth and whistle.

Where do we start?

from the Temple Mount.

The Americans did not condemn Ben Gabir's ascension to the holy place for Judaism this week, contrary to the reports of the best commentators.

In fact, the international criticism of the tour of the mountain by the Minister of National Security (or for short the Minister of Defense) was not "harsh" either. One Jordanian reprimand, a few hiccups in Arab capitals and the UN, and we were done.

Any routine construction in the West receives a more severe treatment in the West. Not to mention that not a single missile fell throughout the country, thank God, and that's the main thing.

further.

Ben Gvir's ascent to the mountain also did not lead to the postponement of Netanyahu's visit to the Emirates.

The reason for this is that such a visit has not yet been scheduled.

There is an invitation and a mutual desire, but the timing is still being coordinated.

Ben Gabir neither "backed down" nor "postponed the visit under Netanyahu's pressure", as the media reported on Monday evening, and therefore ate the hat on Tuesday morning.

But not only in the Ben Gavir context.

The ultra-Orthodox battalion "Netzach Yehuda" was brought up to the Golan this week to upgrade its capabilities and become an organic part of the IDF. Contrary to the report in "Haaretz", the decision to do so was made long before the incidents in which it was involved in the Yosh.

What more?

Miri Regev did not cancel the NTAs, as was claimed, but only asked to examine the issue - a necessary step for a new minister who recognizes a problem. Bezalel Smotrich did not leave the Director General of the Treasury, Ram Belinkov in his position - this nonsense was also written this week - but brought The brilliant lawyer Shlomi Heisler.

And the list goes on.

And a convoy continues

The weekly chain of lies continues the piles of nonsense written about the new government since the elections.

What didn't they say?

That Israel will cease to be a democracy, that the government will harm LGBT people, that the police will be political, that the IDF will mobilize 70 reserve battalions, that Smotrich destroyed the chain of command in the IDF, and that Shaurit Stroke against medical treatment for gays.

And here, the government stood up and in its first step 30 ultra-Orthodox, ultra-orthodox and rightist MKs, including Strock, Rothman and the reviled Mouz, raised their hands in favor of a proud Knesset speaker. Neither the US nor the UK, nor France nor Spain, put in place - 3 in the ruling hierarchy an LGBT representative. Neither did the Israeli left when it was in power.

And here, the government stood up and in its first step 30 ultra-Orthodox, ultra-Orthodox and Yemeni MKs raised their hands in favor of a proud Knesset speaker. Neither the US nor the UK, nor France nor Spain, placed an LGBT representative in the 3rd place in the governing hierarchy

It was the Likud - a national-liberal party - that initiated the precedent, and didn't even have to argue about it with its partners.

But hey, why let facts spoil a good story.

The big trouble is that many good people swallow the prophecies of panic.

Right-wing voters and Likud supporters have also forgotten that those who are now defeating them with all the above-mentioned nonsense about "the most extreme government in Israel's history", are the ones who predicted the "political tsunami" in the last decade or said in this decade that "Bibi will not bring even one vaccine".

The bitter reality is that most of the Israeli media work in the service of the opposition.

This is how things have always been.

This week they are the ones who inflated Ben Gvir's ascent to the mountain to alarming proportions.

If it weren't for the dramatic coverage - which Ben Gvir did not suffer from - his 13-minute trip at ten in the morning in Tevet would have passed in relative silence.

Here, as an example, is the American reference.

First, the charming ambassador Tom Neides - who prays at the Western Wall every week - did not respond to the visit at all.

He did not tweet, send a message or take any other proactive action.

what yes

Only those media outlets that requested a reference received it.

That is, it was a choice of the systems and the reporters to bring Ben Gabir to the top of the headlines after he ascended the mountain to the home.

But more than that, even when he responded, Neidas did not condemn.

Neither did the State Department.

They certainly had reservations, "expressed concern" and spoke in praise of the status quo.

But their language was careful.

They knew that Israel had not violated the status quo, since Ben Gabir is not the first minister to visit the Temple Mount.

Moreover, according to American values, opposition to Jewish visits to the Temple Mount is a violation of every person's fundamental right to freedom of religion.

So by their own codes, Americans have a hard time condemning legitimate religious activity.

That is why they chose their words carefully, and were even prepared to veto Israel's right to the Security Council, if necessary.

But there was no need.

And not a crisis.

There was a measured and expected criticism, and that was the end of the matter.

I wish all of Israel's diplomatic crises looked like this.

The point is only that in our places, the facts do not prevent anyone from writing a good story.

Irresponsible opposition

The media's reception of Netanyahu, Derai and their partners is in contradiction to the devotion of those journalists and commentators to the previous government.

When Bennett and Lapid took the reins, you could, for example, read flattering articles about the enthusiasm with which they were received in the government offices, and about the sweet interest tours they conducted among the enthusiastic workers.

Wonderful.

But also this week the ministers who took office moved between the wings and the departments.

They too, at least in some cases, were received with sparkling eyes.

On Monday I attended two ministerial exchange ceremonies and spent hours in the Knesset.

It was easy to see the enthusiasm of many.

After all, the majority of the public in general, and the Jews in particular, voted for the new coalition, so it is clear to Simcha what it is doing.

Still, reading about her in the media was impossible.

The headlines were, of course, about "Likud jobs".

Beyond the media problem, the distorted coverage causes damage in reality itself.

First, the security level.

Former MK Yehuda Glick warned on Twitter that "the incitement in the media and in the world against Ben Gvir is the driving force behind terrorism and is a wink to his blood!" Glick signed off with an almost macabre joke, "Don't ask how I know." He was shot because of his activities for Jewish immigration to the Temple Mount.

Second, political elevation.

Let us imagine that instead of squeezing the dry lemon of attacks on Netanyahu, opposition leader Lapid would have taken a moral and responsible position. Suppose he had said, "Freedom of worship is a fundamental right, certainly in democracies.

Although I am against the visit at this time, it does not violate the status quo."

Such a statement by the former Prime Minister would have created a regional and international domino effect. The Emirates - a tolerant country that sanctifies freedom of belief and has built a magnificent inter-religious complex, which includes a mosque, a church and a synagogue - could not disagree with his words. In the face of such a clear voice from the Israeli opposition They might even have been embarrassed to act against Israel in the UN.

All the more so that in the West they would reduce the dose of criticism even more.

A responsible position on the part of Lapid was echoed by the chorus of the Israeli media, followed by the foreign press.

But Lapid chose to attack and thereby gave implicit legitimacy to the anti-Israel food chain, from his left to Gaza.

This is the price we pay for the platitudes that crowd the biased public discourse.

The luck is that in this round the price was not too big.
