Due to staff shortages and overwork in the practices, pediatricians in the Miesbach district are reducing their on-call times.

District

– Runny nose and barking cough, often with a fever: For families with (small) children, this has often been an exhausting permanent condition since autumn.

Since the corona-related infection protection measures were abolished, viruses have had a clear path into the respiratory tract.

Sooner or later, the path of many parents leads to the pediatrician.

Since the condition of the little patients can also deteriorate outside of office hours, the pediatric on-call service in the district is also an important point of contact.

But this is now offered in much narrower time windows.

Instead of seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the on-call phone (phone 0 80 26 / 38 92 92) is only manned on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The practice of the pediatrician who is on duty on weekends and public holidays is no longer open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., but only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Outside of these times, parents seeking advice will have to contact the normal medical on-call service (telephone 116 117) or the pediatric on-call practice in Rosenheim or Munich.

Pediatricians in the district of Miesbach: too few staff for all shifts

The Miesbach pediatrician Dr.

Stefan Razeghi, who is also chairman of the pediatricians in the district of Miesbach, explains the reduction when asked by our newspaper with the sharp increase in workload in the practices in recent months.

There are now only six colleagues available for on-call services.

The previous layers could simply no longer be covered with so few heads.

"As sorry as we are, but we don't see any other option here at the moment," says Razeghi.

The doctor reminds that the organization of the pediatric on-call service became more complicated from the start of the pandemic.

Because the waiting area of the joint practice had previously been in the entrance area of the Agatharied hospital, the health department had come to the conclusion, for understandable reasons, that this was no longer compatible with the hospital's particularly strict infection protection requirements.

As a result, the consultation hours were offered in the practice on duty.

Practices additionally burdened by shortage of medicines

However, the way back to the hospital is not entirely impossible, reveals Razeghi.

From the point of view of the resident colleagues, the cooperation with the hospital and here in particular with the children's ward is very positive and constructive.

The clinic even promised whether and how it could strengthen the pediatric on-call service in its difficult situation.

But according to Razeghi, this also depends to a large extent on the human and financial resources of the hospital and the approval of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

According to Razeghi, the fact that the financial resources in the health system are increasingly becoming a problem is also due to (political) actions in the recent past.

"Unfortunately, a lot has been saved here." This is now taking revenge in view of the high number of patients with a parallel shortage of staff and medicines.

"Sometimes we have to call around for a long time to get an antibiotic juice," Razeghi sighs.

Time that is missing at every nook and cranny in the current overload of pediatric practices.

Whether during regular office hours or on call.
