The disaster, which took around 7 a.m. on Thursday, concerns 800 tonnes of metals and 2,500 liters of oils. He would be subdued but continues to

The fire is expected to last for several days.

A fire has been going on since 7 a.m. this morning at the metal waste recycling center on rue du Petit-Fossard, in Esmans, owned by STLG, which took over Marchetto in 2017.

About fifty firefighters are on site to prevent the spread of flames on this site which stores 800 tonnes of metal and 2,500 liters of oil.

The fire appears to have been brought under control.

The protection of the production tool, a shredder, located in the immediate vicinity of the site, is a priority.

No casualties were reported.

The RD 28 has been cut in both directions at Varennes-sur-Seine in order to facilitate the progress of the intervention services.

Fire protection is ensured by the basins present on the site and reinforced by a network fire hydrant.

A possibility of pumping in the Yonne at the level of the activity zone is envisaged.

No pollution according to the first readings

At noon, the smoke was heading towards Saint-Germain-Laval and Cannes-Ecluse.

The first readings relating to the pollution carried out by the firefighters do not indicate that the thresholds have been exceeded.

Only the smell can cause discomfort.

According to the recommendations issued by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), it is however recommended to avoid sports practice until the end of the episode, to close the doors and windows and cut the ventilation, not to do not hang the laundry outside and consult in case of respiratory discomfort.

This is the 4th fire on this site after those of 2009, 2015 and 2019. In 2018, the State gave STLG formal notice to comply on ten points, after having noted, among other things, "storage of oils in tanks without retention", a "rainwater retention basin loaded with hydrocarbons", "the absence of control of aqueous effluents" or "the malfunctioning of rainwater treatment facilities".

“We have already responded to 80% of the requests from the State”, assured STLG, showing the file sent to the prefecture and in which there were photos of oil storage, this time equipped with retention.
