Fürstenfeldbruck – Serious accidents occur several times a year on the B2 at the Kaisersäule crossing.

The junction, known as the accident black spot, at which the street "Zur Kaisersäule" in Puch crosses the main road towards Lindach, was repeatedly the subject of consultations in the city council.

Property negotiations with residents, compliance with monument protection and planning procedures made the project difficult.

Road safety urgently needs to be increased

Most recently, the CSU had submitted an application that provides for the pivoting of a planned roundabout and thus avoids the problematic purchase of land for the realization of a roundabout.

Group spokesman Lohde explains, "With the considerations from the CSU parliamentary group, which Martin Kellerer had presented in a plan, only one property owner would have been affected in addition to the Free State, so that the roundabout could have been realized more quickly." Lohde's initiative now found an on-site appointment at the accident black spot.

“As a quasi-resident and member of the fire brigade, I notice almost every accident directly.

That's why I'm grateful to our constituency deputy, Alex Dorow, that we were able to meet with the responsible authorities of the city of Fürstenfeldbruck, the police and especially the state road construction office on site,

to advise on how to proceed,” explains the parliamentary group spokesman.

The police representatives confirmed the danger emanating from the crossing area and thus confirmed the urgent need to increase traffic safety through structural measures here.

Traffic lights would be the fastest option

The experts from the road construction office evaluated the roundabout plan of the CSU parliamentary group as an option, but a roundabout on a federal road with a radius of around 50 meters would have to be significantly larger than the sketch envisaged.

This in turn would mean that the property negotiations would be easier with the change proposed by the CSU, but even if this variant were to be implemented with the necessary radius of 50 meters, a new plan approval procedure would have to be set up, which would again take several years.

"We don't have that time," stated Lohde, "because we need to improve traffic safety in the near future."

From the point of view of the road construction authority, the quickest way to improve traffic safety is to set up a traffic light system that regulates traffic at the intersection.

This does not need as much space as a roundabout.

As a result, no new plan approval procedure would be necessary. The head of the police inspection, police chief Valentin, also confirmed that traffic lights on federal roads in other places are quite common and can, in principle, significantly defuse accident black spots.

Results by mid-2023

A traffic study is now to take place in the first quarter of 2023, which will provide the basis for a traffic report with a traffic count.

According to the engineers from the road construction authority, this can be used to calculate the performance of a traffic light system.

The results should be available in mid-2023.

When asked by MP Dorow when the implementation can be expected, the experts said that implementation by the end of 2024 is feasible.

The route of the cycle path and the connection to the expansion area of the Pucher Meer would still have to be clarified in the detailed planning.
