Tesla Keeler: Volkswagen's electric family car

2023-01-05T05:47:36.636Z

Volkswagen continues to expand its family of electric cars and reveals at the CES exhibition its answer to the Tesla Model 3 under the guise of pixels

In recent years, the international technology exhibition CES in Las Vegas has also become a kind of car exhibition, with many manufacturers unveiling concept models or electric models.

Also this year, several interesting electric cars will be presented at the exhibition, one of the most important of which is Volkswagen's ID.7 which was revealed under a QR barcode style camouflage cover.

This is the first official reveal, even if not completely complete, of the serial version of the ID AERO display model introduced last year.

This is Volkswagen's electric family car and the sixth model in the company's ID family, which until now mainly included crossover vehicles (ID.4, ID.5 and ID.6), a compact hatchback (ID.3) and the ID BUZZ that was designed Inspired by the classic transporter.

Under the camouflage cover, it can be seen that the ID.7 is not exactly a classic sedan configuration, offering a sloping rear window and a short tail that gives it a liftback silhouette, and it will probably also be equipped with a useful fifth door.

The opaque front and the lighting units correspond with the design line of the other models of the family, as does the fold in the waist line.

Volkswagen did not disclose the dimensions except for the wheelbase, which will be 297 cm long, almost 10 cm more than the Tesla Model 3, 5 cm more than the BYD HAN and two cm more than the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Like its other sisters, the ID.7 will also be based on the modular MEB platform.

However, Volkswagen did not reveal any technical data except for a statement about an impressive driving range of 700 km.

ID.7 should present high aerodynamic efficiency to enable such a range, but it is likely that in order to achieve it, it will also be equipped with a battery with a significantly larger capacity than the 82 kWh battery which is the largest that Volkswagen's electric platform currently houses.

Instead of technical details, Volkswagen preferred to focus at the CES exhibition on the technological details of the ID.7 which, according to their statement, will include a 15-inch central touch screen, an advanced display with augmented reality technology and an operating interface with a new and improved design together with the operating interface in the existing ID models.

Another innovation is sliders for touch operation towards the air conditioning shutters - as if operating the climate control by sliders wasn't cumbersome enough so far in the other current Volkswagen models.

The full debut of the Volkswagen ID.7 without camouflage will be made during the year.
