Iraqi President Abd al-Latif Rashid called for the prosecution of the perpetrators of the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, three years ago.
Rashid said in a speech delivered on his behalf by his representative, Abdullah Al-Alaywi, during an official festival held in Baghdad today to commemorate the two martyrs: The crime of targeting should be the subject of permanent condemnation and rejection, and that it should be a priority for Iraqi political dealings until justice is achieved.
In turn, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, said: The previous American administration's doing this act is a flagrant assault on Iraqi territory and sovereignty, and it is condemned by all international norms and laws, as it is a dangerous act whose repercussions could have threatened security and stability in the entire region.
The head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Authority, Faleh Al-Fayyad, confirmed that the leaders of victory are role models for Iraqi youth and the rising generation, pointing out that the martyr Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis is the son of Iraq who dedicated his life to defending the country.
The head of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq, Faeq Zaidan, described the assassination as a treacherous crime that had no legal basis.
Zaidan said: The responsibility of the judiciary to hold accountable those who committed the crime against the leaders of victory doubles, pointing out that the judiciary will not hesitate to take legal measures against whoever proves evidence of his participation in the assassination crime.
Zidan explained that the judiciary issued an arrest warrant against former US President Donald Trump, who confessed to committing the crime, calling on those investigating the assassination of the victory leaders to make an exceptional effort to uncover the perpetrators.
Soleimani and the engineer were killed along with their companions as a result of an American missile strike in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020, and their assassination drew widespread Arab and international condemnation.
