This year, night owls will have to do without the hut fun at Garmisch-Partenkirchner Marienplatz during the World Cup season.

The restaurateurs Miriam and Peter Messerschmitt blew the whole thing off due to the conditions imposed by the community, which they considered unacceptable.

The background to this are complaints from residents.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – When the Ski World Cup circus makes a stop in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, there is an exceptional atmosphere and international flair.

It used to be a party at Richard-Strauss-Platz.

In recent years, the Peaches operator Peter Messerschmitt and his daughter Miriam have invited guests to the World Cup hut in front of the gastro complex on Marienplatz.

In the wooden construction, which was set up in the municipal car park, there was a lively après-ski atmosphere on many evenings with live music, snacks and plenty of alcohol.

Many companies, especially event agencies, like to book the rustic location, which fans call "Zipfi-Zapfi-Hüttn".

Everything was actually planned and well prepared for the Gaudi, which this year was supposed to take place from January 20th to February 4th.

As they report, the Messerschmitts had already rented the space for the 16 days, organized the set-up, booked six bands and 15 employees and had lots of advertising flyers printed.

But that was all for nothing.

Because the local entrepreneurs canceled the nightly entertainment.

The reason: the municipality tightened the requirements.

So the Messerschmitts were imposed a musical curfew from Sunday to Thursday from 10 p.m.

In recent years, the music ban only applied from midnight.

Peter Messerschmitt thinks the new regulation is absurd – and pulls the ripcord.

"We'll let it be," says the landlord,

who emailed their business partners and sponsors earlier this week about the cancellation.

With the restriction mentioned, the World Cup hut is no longer profitable.

Because: “Our main turnover is after 10 p.m..” And mood music is simply part of it.

"This is a great loss for Garmisch-Partenkirchen"

The businessman's disappointment is obvious.

"This is a great loss for Garmisch-Partenkirchen," he is convinced.

In other World Cup destinations there is no such strict music curfew.

There's a lot of partying even after midnight.

"Thus, the Ski World Cup in the center of Garmisch-Partenkichner will be an event that will hardly be noticed," is his bitter balance sheet.

Meanwhile, Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU) is defending the course.

Recently, the complaints from citizens about too much noise, riots and dirt in the vicinity of the night gastronomy at Marienplatz have increased massively, reports the head of the town hall.

Criminal offenses and misdemeanors are also common.

"This is and will remain a hotspot," she says of the area.

You have to be considerate of the residents, is her tenor.

complaints from residents

The nerves of many residents are indeed blank.

"I can't stand it any longer," says Ursula Sedlmayr from the butcher shop of the same name on Alpspitzstrasse.

Signatures have already been collected.

In the letter of complaint to the public order office, in addition to a nocturnal "noise nuisance" emanating from the terraces of the two bars Music Cafe and Peaches, violent incidents in the area are mentioned.

For example, there is talk of faeces on listed facades, stabbings, fights, car races, sex in public and vandalism.

Every citizen has a right to a good night's sleep, the residents argue - and the municipality has a duty to implement and monitor this.

Miriam and Peter Messerschmitt, on the other hand, refer to the high personnel costs to ensure peace and order.

Five security employees are on duty at the weekends, and eight during the World Cup.

"We remind people to be calm when leaving our rooms, we control the drug scene, we don't have any dealers," they emphasize.

However, you have no handle in the environment.

Daniel Schimmer, district head of the hotel and restaurant association, cannot understand the step taken by the community.

This deprived the World Cup hut of its livelihood - with fatal consequences for the nightlife in the district.

"We're becoming unattractive for tourists," he warns.

Schimmer thinks that double standards are used in the town hall.

In the beer tents at the folk festivals, the music doesn't have to stop at 10 p.m. either.

"Where is equality?" asks the municipal council of the Free Voters.
