The head of the group's video game division made the announcement this Thursday at the CES show in Las Vegas. In practice, it remains difficult to hole

The indicators are almost all green for Sony's PlayStation 5 (PS5).

The Japanese manufacturer announced on Wednesday evening, this Thursday Paris time, at the CES high-tech show in Las Vegas (Nevada, United States), that its console released at the end of 2020 had just crossed the 30 million mark. units sold.

At the end of September 2022, it had a cumulative 25 million units sold worldwide.

The company claims to have achieved its best month in December since the introduction of its home console on the market.

Jim Ryan, head of Sony's video game division, went there to comment on these figures.

He took the opportunity to explain that they result from an improvement in the distribution of the console.

“Anyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one from sellers around the world from now on,” he said, promising an end to the shortage.

Objective 30 million sales in 2022-2023

The PS5 suffered from a double difficulty due to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As for many electronic devices, the sharp increase in demand after the period of strict confinements weighed heavily on the semiconductor market.

Production capacities have been reduced.

In addition, as in many sectors, the console suffered supply difficulties due to disruptions in the areas of delivery and transport.

If the latest good figures for the PS5 show that supply and demand are starting to agree, finding a console is not yet the easiest quest.

In France, in recent weeks, regular deliveries and sales have taken place in various stores, physical or online.

But within hours stocks were generally down to zero.

In the case of Amazon, the purchase is only possible by invitation.

However, Sony confirms its optimism for the coming months.

The Japanese giant is aiming for a total of 37 million PS5s sold worldwide by the end of March.

For the whole of the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Sony expects a total of 30 million copies sold.

Finally, Sony took advantage of CES to present a model of PS5 controller adapted to disabilities.

This is the Leonardo Project.
