The Buchendorfer Schützen invite you to the New Year's firecrackers at the Keltenschanze.

– After a two-year Corona break, the Buchendorf predatory game shooters are again inviting you to the traditional firecracker shooting for Epiphany, January 6th.

The firecrackers will be ignited from 4 p.m. at the Keltenschanze in Buchendorf.

Also taking part are the St. Vitus riflemen Stockdorf and the Hubertus riflemen Planegg.

We spoke to the Buchendorf rifle champion Sebastian Waltl (69) about this tradition.

Who is involved?

The Buchendorf predatory game shooters, founded 95 years ago, the St. Vitus shooters Stockdorf and the Hubertus shooters Planegg always meet on the public holiday, January 6th, at the Buchendorf Keltenschanze.

Before that, we welcome the new year with a joint firecracker on January 1st on the Fleckhamer Straße meadow in Krailling.

How many Würmtal shooters will there be in Buchendorf?

We are around 25 to 30 shooters with shaft and hand firecrackers, and then we have four cannons with us.

From what period does the cannon of the predatory game shooters come from?

So from around 1800.

What is fired?

Black powder, as in World War I and Napoleon's time.

Iron balls used to be in the cannons.

Now we have corks to plug before the gunpowder is ignited.

Is there a specific choreography?

A Stockdorfer with his flag gives the command for all three shooting clubs.

We only have three to four options, such as the fast or the slow row of firecrackers.

After ten shots, about half an hour later, the firecracker shooting is over.

Firecrackers as such have been in the line of fire of environmentalists for some time.

And the events in Berlin don't necessarily improve the image either.

Our traditional Dreikönigs-Böllern in Buchendorf cannot be compared with a New Year's Eve banging like in Berlin with injured emergency services.

Because we ignite black powder, which burns completely - and leaves no residue.

We also report the firecrackers with the number of shots to the Gauting regulatory office and the police.

So that they know when there's a bang and a rattle.

When it comes to noise levels, we comply with the prescribed decibel values.

What speaks for shooting firecrackers to welcome the new year?

Look: because of rules and prohibitions, tradition is becoming less and less with us.

We Buchendorf predatory game shooters also only have 60 members, 30 of them active shooters, but no youngsters.

And because of the environment, the much admired mountain riflemen shouldn't be able to fire any more.

Just drop by the Dreikönig at 4 p.m. at the Keltenschanze to experience the whole thing.

All citizens are cordially invited.

And the Buchendorf youth fire brigade also serves mulled wine and children's punch to top up their cash register.
