Punishment served: Wagner boss Prigoshin recruited prisoners for the Ukraine war – and has now released the first mercenaries.

There was advice on parting.

Moscow – Murderers, thieves, rapists: The Wagner group is said to have hired mercenaries in Russian prisons for the Ukraine war.

The deal reportedly: After six months on the front lines, freedom beckons.

The first prisoners have now apparently been released.

When they left, mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, known as Putin's cook, apparently gave them a few pieces of advice.

They once again highlight the dubious troops the Kremlin is sending into the war.

Current war in Ukraine: Prigozhin releases prisoners from the ranks of the Wagner mercenaries

"You have fulfilled your contract.

You worked honorably, with dignity,” said the boss of the Wagner mercenaries, Yevgeny Prigozhin, personally thanking the prisoners for their six-month service in the Ukraine war.

The speech can be seen in a video distributed by the Russian news agency Ria Novosti.

It shows "Putin's cook" - together with a group of men, some of whom are injured but only partially recognizable.

After the end of their time as mercenaries, they were to be "treated with the deepest respect" by Russian society.

But there are conditions for this, Prigozhin added: "Don't drink too much, don't take drugs, don't rape women, don't do anything stupid."

The Wagner mercenaries are notorious for their brutality.

The force, founded by Putin friend Prigozhin and deployed in many international conflicts, is also on the front line for Russia in the Ukraine war.

Currently, a striking number of fighters are said to be wearing themselves out when taking the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.

The place in the Donetsk Oblast is considered a regional transport hub and has acquired a high symbolic importance in the fighting.

Wagner Group: Prigozhin's private army suffers high casualties in the Ukraine war

However, the Wagner troop had a hard time capturing the fortress.

Prigozhin admitted this recently.

Ukraine has "500 lines of defense" there that cannot be breached, he said.

The losses for the mercenaries seem to be correspondingly high - as well as for the Russian army as a whole.

With a successful counter-offensive, the Ukrainian troops pushed back the attackers in some regions of eastern Ukraine.

To make up for the losses, the Wagner squad is said to have begun recruiting inmates in Russian prisons.

Recruits for the Wagner mercenaries: Putin's cook personally recruits prisoners in prisons

So far, this has never been verified independently.

In September 2022, however, a video appeared in which "Putin's cook" Prigozhin may have personally started a recruitment attempt in prison and dictated the conditions.

But the video was shaky and blurry.

Nevertheless, the indications of recruitment have recently increased.

According to US intelligence information, the number of detainees in the ranks of the Russian army and Wagner mercenaries will have increased to 40,000 by the end of 2022, as the White House Communications Director, John Kirby, recently confirmed.

Among them are many serious criminals.

What is the mercenary group Wagner from Russia?

The Wagner group is a paramilitary unit that can now be assigned to Yevgeny Prigozhin.

He is a businessman and owner of the catering company Konkord

operates the only private restaurant in the Russian Parliament building in Moscow.

That's why Prigozhin is called Putin's cook.

His mercenary force has been considered the Kremlin's shadow army since it was founded in 2014 and is said to have been active in numerous crisis regions.

The Wagner group can also be associated with torture and executions.

But obviously not everyone wants to do the service with the weapon for six months.

A few days ago, Prigozhin had to confirm that some recruits had escaped from a training center.

Instead of serving Putin and the fatherland for six months and then collecting freedom and 100,000 rubles, six men preferred to disappear from the scene – allegedly, by the way, heavily armed.
