Medium-sized companies are struggling with the current crises.

A Franconian butcher's shop closes its doors forever.

The operators explain their motives on Facebook.

Zirndorf – “We are no longer the same as 10 years ago.

The world is no longer the same as it was 10 years ago,” says a sign at the Kehrstephan butcher shop in Zirndorf (district of Fürth).

The doors of the traditional butcher's shop have been closed for a few days - forever.

The operators decided to give up the family-run business.

They explained the reasons for their departure on Tuesday (January 4) on their Facebook page.

Butcher's shop in Zirndorf closes forever: "We hunched together until we dropped"

"The bottom line is, it's quite simple: Our seniors are now 72 and 65 years old," the post reads.

The sons were practically “born” into the business and enjoyed all kinds of training from cooks, butchers, hunters and fishermen.

Everything so that they can continue their parents' "amazing preparatory work".

However, it is like this: "Our profession does not have the necessary offspring to be able to run smooth operations." The parents would help them "until they jump into the grave", but the sons want to prevent that.

"Times change.

We crouched together till we dropped.

Mom and senior just can't take it anymore.

So let them enjoy their lives.

Rest, be happy, have time”, the sons explain on Facebook.

“Who would want to let their parents work until they become the Grim Reaper with their eyes wide open?

We are not.

That's why we made the decision to stop at the end of 2022.

It was an honour.

An exciting time.

All of our lives we have invested.”

Metzgerei Kehrstephan says goodbye: "Now it's time to let go"

"Now it's time to let go." The family is looking forward to a new chapter.

The operators thanked their long-standing customers with emotional words: "Everyone, simply everyone, whose path has crossed ours over the years: Thank you".

Numerous people wish the family all the best in the comments and show great understanding for the decision to give up the butcher shop.

It is one of many traditional businesses that have pulled the ripcord in recent weeks.

For some, rising energy and commodity prices are the straw that broke the camel's back.

The Bühler butcher shop in Bamberg, for example, decided to give up operations because of the additional costs of EUR 7,000 per month.

This was also one of the reasons for closing the shop at the Sauer butcher shop in Forchheim.
