Damascus-SANA
The Armenian community, which follows the eastern calendar, celebrated today the glorious Christmas, the birth of Christ, the messenger of love and peace.
On this occasion, a Divine Liturgy was held in Saint Sarkis Church for the Armenian Orthodox in Damascus, presided over by Archbishop Armash Nalbandian, Metropolitan of the Armenian Orthodox Diocese of Damascus and its dependencies, assisted by a group of priests and the church's choir.
In the holiday sermon, Bishop Nalbandian spoke about the sublime meanings of Christmas, calling for emulation of the Holy Family and the teachings enshrined by Christ in the necessity of adhering to the principles of love, goodness, justice and peace among all people.
At the end of his homily, Bishop Nalbandian congratulated and wished security, peace and prosperity for the Syrian people, army and leadership.
The holiday sermon also included the sermon of His Holiness, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, on the occasion of Christmas, which is recited in all Armenian churches around the world.
On the occasion of the Epiphany (the baptism of Christ), Bishop Nalbandian, after the end of the Divine Liturgy, blessed the water. According to the traditions of the Armenian Church, two best men, Harutyun Allah Verdian and Asador Nazrian, were chosen to carry the special crosses for the blessing.
