The snow waltz was the wedding dance 50 years ago and had to be it again at the golden wedding anniversary of Josef and Ingeborg Drexler - even if there was no snow far and wide then as now.

Kottgeisering – On the other hand, there was a break in the choice of inn after the Schilling inn, which Josef Drexler's sister Sofie Schilling had run with her husband, no longer existed for more than 20 years.

"The economy and the associated discotheque were about to undergo major renovations, during which the legendary desk telephones were also installed," recalls Ingeborg Drexler.

For this reason - and not for tax reasons - in the middle of winter, shortly before the end of 1972, 130 wedding guests were married in the Schilling inn.

Josef Drexler and his future wife Ingeborg saw each other for the first time at an internal meeting of what was then the local CSU branch in Grafrath-Kottgeisering.

At that time, Drexler's future wife was already a member of the CSU in the district council, while Josef was neither there nor a member of the CSU.

That was to change later, when Drexler not only joined the CSU, but was also elected to the district council a few years later.

Ingeborg Drexler, who was employed as director of the then newly built evangelical leisure center, gave up a political career in favor of her husband.

A second contact then arose at a dance event in the “Schilling”.

The first years of marriage were characterized by the expansion of agriculture before Josef Drexler was elected mayor in 1984 - and held this office, along with many others, for 30 years.

The current former mayor was awarded honorary citizenship for his services.

The Drexlers recently celebrated a service of thanksgiving with their four children and seven grandchildren.

Unlike 50 years ago, when only the then local pastor Wilhelm Eller celebrated, this time three Franciscan fathers from Grafrath were there: Flavian Michali, Silvester Ostfeld and Adrian Manderla.
