Flow of refugees unbroken: District is reaching its limits - gyms are not available for the rest of the school year

The stream of refugees will continue in the new year.

The district is reaching its limits.

Pupils and athletes have little hope of improvement.

District – The flow of refugees continues unabated at the turn of the year.

According to the district office, around 50 refugees per week are currently assigned to the district.

The previous capacities are exhausted.

Another bus with 50 people arrived in the district on Tuesday.

The refugees were accommodated "for lack of alternatives in the gymnasium at Tegernsee Gymnasium," says Sophie Stadler, spokeswoman for the district office in Miesbach.

She gives pupils and athletes little hope that the situation will improve in the foreseeable future: "We no longer expect to be able to open the halls for lessons this school year." However, this is no different in neighboring districts, cities and municipalities.

There, too, gymnasiums are occupied by refugees.

The district office does not get a long preparation time.

Employees in the "Foreigners and Asylum Affairs" department receive information about the approximate number of people, the group of people and the time of arrival at very short notice.

On arrival they are registered, tested for Corona and provided with initial equipment packages.

The recording of ten people usually takes an hour.

Ukrainians are primarily accommodated in private accommodation provided by the district office and in the gymnasium of the Miesbach high school.

All other asylum seekers, mainly from Afghanistan, Syria and Nigeria, are housed in decentralized accommodation and in the Miesbach vocational school gym.

At the beginning of December, 1,187 refugees from Ukraine and 695 from other countries were housed in the district.

Before the Ukraine war, 382 asylum seekers lived here.

In spite of numerous appeals, there has been no significant expansion of the accommodation capacities in recent years.

After all, after confirmation of the assumption of costs for the planned containers in Holzkirchen and Hausham by the government of Upper Bavaria at the end of November, the detailed planning could be started and the call for tenders issued.

Since refugee accommodation is a state task, the government must be involved for every step.

Stadler goes on to say: “Our administration has been trying to provide accommodation for years.

We didn't miss anything - there are no suitable, available objects in the region".

The district of Miesbach is no exception in this respect either: the anchor centers and reception facilities in and around Munich are occupied, and the influx of refugees is continuing.

"The employees," says Stadler, "are at their breaking point."
