The writer Richard Lorenz wants to offer local authors a stage with a new format in Freising.

From January 12, it's time to go to the "Lesbar."

Freising

– In the cathedral city it gets literary: the Freising writer and journalist Richard Lorenz recently founded the first Freising reading stage “Lesbar” together with Lindenkeller sound engineer Rudi Spindler and Stadtcafé landlady Anja Duppelfeld.

In the future, an author will read from his works every month in the Oberhaus vom Lindenkeller, and information evenings about writing and publishing will also be held from time to time in between.

It starts on Thursday, January 12th, with a reading by Lorenz himself, who will present his novels.

The initial spark

What the writer has noticed for a long time: there are many authors in the district, but they hardly have the opportunity to present their work to an audience - especially if the artists don't have a large publisher behind them or no publisher at all.

The stroke of luck: Spindler, who was a friend, was immediately enthusiastic about the idea of installing a reading stage in Freising and accompanying it with sound at the mixing desk.

The right location was quickly found: Duppelfeld, who wanted to significantly expand the cultural offerings in the upper house anyway, could help here.

"The plan is simple," explained Lorenz in the FT interview.

“Each author is allowed to read for an hour.

Admission is cheap and the Oberhaus atmosphere is wonderful.” What is special about the “Lesbar” is that each artist is accompanied by a musician.

"Music and literature simply go well together, I've learned that from 30 years of stage experience," explained Lorenz, who has performed his readings at Tollwood in Munich, among other places.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Readings only

What is important to the trio: the reading stage focuses exclusively on readings - not on poetry slam artists or freelance storytellers.

Because for both groups there are already venues in Freising.

Whether the authors present poetry, short stories, essays or excerpts from novels in “Lesbar” is entirely up to the artists.

The program

Lorenz himself will start the winter and spring series, who will read from his literary novels such as “Amerika Plakate”.

As usual, he will be accompanied by Axel Le Rouge.

On Thursday, February 16th, the Freising musical all-rounder Roman Seehon will take the stage.

He will read from his music-tinged biography "One glance is holy", accompanied by Wolfgang Netzer.

There will also be excerpts from a biography on Thursday, March 16: The cult musician and author Mäx Huber allows insights into his dark gray literary worlds - which he himself illustrates musically.

Before a break of several months, interested parties can get tips and tricks from Lorenz on Thursday, March 30th, who wants to answer all questions about writing and publishing in a panel discussion.

According to Lorenz, there could also be short writing workshops and a so-called “Word Festival”, i.e. a multi-day literature event, as part of the reading stage.

It will then continue in autumn 2023 with monthly readings until 2024. Lorenz emphasizes: "We want to offer authors from the district and beyond the opportunity to finally be able to present their work to an audience in a very uncomplicated way." ft

Good to know

Richard Lorenz will be reading on Tuesday, January 12, from 7.30 p.m. in the Oberhaus Lindenkeller.

Admission is five euros.
