Le Figaro Lyon
A national first for Lyon cyclists.
Since December 19, a new bike wash station has been installed on Place Bellecour in partnership with the Fix&Move repair workshop, which operates one of the kiosks behind the tourist office as a public service delegation.
With five minutes of time and all the same 10 euros, they can pamper their mount.
This is the first fixed installation of this type, according to Rémi Hingrin, founder of the Lavovélo company.
"The model was tested in an ephemeral way, especially for the day of mobility or on the Ardéchoise sports cyclo race",
he specifies.
And to insist on the benefits of regular washing to prolong the life of the bike and its components.
"All the technicians say it and it's a request from cyclists"
, insists the entrepreneur.
Biodegradable detergent
With a whole range of needs, from the poorly maintained bike that will need a shot of lubricant after washing the chain for example, to the simple grooming of the most pampered machines.
In Germany, the stations are also accompanied by a small cabinet with the necessary maintenance to finish powdering your little queen.
In Lyon, a mobile version is also circulating in partnership with the start-up Kluster.
The operator who pedals can then lend a hand with maintenance.
The detergent used is biodegradable and the water recycled to limit the environmental impact, especially compared to washing with a hose at home.
"I was used to maintaining my bike in my mother-in-law's garden for years, but due to lubrication and maintenance products, the grass no longer grows there"
, says Remi Hingrin.
20,000 to 75,000 euros
Located in the third place grand plateau in Villeurbanne, it emphasizes the need to
“create a cycling ecosystem as there is for the car, taking advantage of the site to develop synergies”
.
It hopes to develop a sufficient network to take advantage of the development of Lyon's cycling infrastructure wanted by the environmental executives at the City and the metropolis.
Moreover, other facilities are already planned, in Lyon and elsewhere in France.
The machine costs from 20,000 to 75,000 depending on the range, which can include solar powered operation or ultrasonic washing.
"Our industrial partner who produces the machine has already sold 200 in Germany"
, underlines Rémi Hingrin who founded Lavovélo in 2021. With an interest also from companies for their employees, as during the test phase which saw the installation of a model at Alstom Villeurbanne, where 500 employees cycle every day.
