The "Gold-Rosi" from Garmisch-Partenkirchen has died.
Not only because of her two gold medals at the 1976 Winter Olympics, she was more popular than almost any other ski star.
Garmisch Partenkirchen – Rosi Mittermaier was a legend.
She won the overall skiing World Cup and won two golds and one silver at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.
At the age of 72, the former ski racer died on Wednesday (January 4) in her home town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
A serious illness is said to have been the cause, as the family confirmed to BR.
Yesterday (January 4th) her son Felix Neureuther commented on the Garmisch slalom as an expert for ARD.
The mourning for the "Gold-Rosi" is great.

Rosi was popular like no other ski star.
She was seen on television as a member of the advice team for the popular quiz show "Dalli Dalli", and since 1999 she has been patron of the German Children's Rheumatism Foundation and ambassador of the initiative against bone loss.
Mittermaier married the Garmisch slalom racer Christian Neureuther in 1980.

On her 70th birthday two years ago, in an interview with Münchner Merkur
, he told
how Mittermaier enchanted him at the time.
"I only looked at that face once and I didn't know what was happening to me.
That was almost 55 years ago and as you get older you become more analytical, but I'm not looking for an explanation."
Rosi was 15 at the time, he was 16. “We were very young, skinny and full of passion for our sport.
And then this little girl stands at the edge of the slope, her face framed by two pigtails and two dimples, and she beams at you.
