So that homeless people who do not have health insurance can also receive medical care, Dr.

Odo Weyerer with his Medmobil in Freising.

Now the offer is to be expanded.

Freising

– When Odo Weyerer recently stopped at the Freising heat room with his Medmobil, he once again saw a new face.

The homeless man didn't know what to do, he was attacked in the Park & Ride car park by three young dealers, who also took what little he had.

Weyerer examined him, bandaged his open feet, gave him a sleeping bag and sleeping mat, which he always has in the car in case of emergencies, and agreed: "We'll see each other again in two days for a check-up!"

Destinies like this are part of everyday life for Odo Weyerer.

The doctor from Freising is regularly on the road with his Medmobil in and around the cathedral city.

He knows the need and suffering of the people who are invisible to most.

The 64-year-old has set himself the goal of reintegrating these women and men into society.

Donations finance the Medmobil

He succeeds with his medmobile.

The ambulance, which has been converted into a doctor's office and made available to him by the Aicher Group, has been rolling through Freising for almost a year and a half.

In this way, people who are homeless and have no health insurance should also be able to access medical care – free of charge.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The whole thing is financed – i.e. fuel, but above all equipping the car with things such as an ECG device, laboratory, oxygen bottles, bandages and tablets – with the support of the Warming Room and the Rotary Club.

Various companies and associations also donate to the Medmobil from time to time.

Weyerer himself works on a voluntary basis.

Keyword Warming Room: The homeless meeting point on Vimystraße in Freising is a fixed stop on Weyerer's tour, but he also drives to the train station, Schwabenau and Villa Kunterbunt in Attaching every Wednesday afternoon.

He works closely with the social workers in Neufahrn and the Catholic Men's Welfare Association.

"They report when something is pending." And there is a lot to do: This year Weyerer mainly administered corona vaccines, but he also carried out a measles, mumps and rubella vaccination in the refugee accommodation in Zolling.

He also took care of the first aid for refugees from Ukraine.

He is not only a doctor, but a mediator

Weyerer now has good access to people.

“Of course I had to build that trust first.

But it worked out well,” he recalls.

For example, he finally managed to convince a woman to stay in hospital so that her tumor could be treated.

With his practice on wheels, Weyerer, who has also worked as a doctor in countries such as Nepal and South Africa for a long time, sees himself not only as a doctor.

He is not only concerned with wound care, emergency treatment and minor outpatient procedures, but also with taking care of homeless people and providing them with contact persons for a wide variety of issues;

for example debtor or pregnancy advice.

Through his many contacts - among other things, Weyerer sits at the table for each other in the city of Freising, the mouthpiece for people in poverty - he has already been able to get three people off the streets.

“That is what drives me and I also enjoy it,” says Weyerer.

"I don't need 100 medals.

I want to help specifically.”
