INTERVIEW Christian Blatt, Mayor of Erdweg, on resolutions and projects

Erdweg – The community of Erdweg turned 50 last year.

It was celebrated with many different events.

Mayor Christian Blatt therefore describes 2022 as an "eventful year" - also in private terms.

In the interview, he takes stock and at the same time dares to look ahead.

How would you sum up the past year in one sentence?

It was an eventful, but also a frightening year, in which there were notable and many beautiful events in the community of Erdweg.

What made you particularly proud in 2022?

Numerous projects and measures were completed in 2022.

We also had reason to celebrate on the occasion of "50 years of Erdweg community".

Clubs and organizations from all parts of the town have organized events throughout the year – a great voluntary service for society.

The central four-day festival with the crowning conclusion of the club and flag procession of all clubs in the community was terrific.

In addition, we were able to complete, inaugurate and move into two new children's homes.

Building two new houses in parallel, on time and without serious cost increases despite the circumstances, was a remarkable achievement.

Along with the canal and road construction measures, a lot has been invested in the infrastructure.

This high workload only works thanks to the commitment of the community's employees and the good and constructive cooperation in the community council.

Of course, I am particularly proud of the birth of my son Michael.

What resolutions do you have for the church?

Are there any projects that citizens can look forward to this year?

In 2023 we want to continue to develop as a community.

There are many different areas to consider and there is a lot on the agenda.

A project in the middle of Erdweg, where apartments for the elderly and rooms for medical facilities are to be built, deserves special attention.

I also hope to be able to announce positive news in the business area.

It is also important to always invest in our infrastructure in order to maintain and expand it.

For example, we have to start modernizing parts of our sewage treatment plant.

What challenges will the community face in 2023?

Since we have to invest a lot in our infrastructure and the running costs are rising, but at the same time there should still be room for maneuver for projects and voluntary services, the financial resources of the community are a constant issue.

In connection with ever increasing assignments of tasks and specifications by the federal and state governments, which are not compensated for financially and in terms of personnel, the situation for us municipalities is getting worse.

Furthermore, the accommodation of refugees will again be a major challenge.

We will also continue to deal with the topics of energy supply, wind energy and sustainability.

What do you wish for 2023?

Health, peaceful times and a relaxation of the political situation at home and abroad.
