Citizens advance money for a project and after a few years benefit from the interest on their shares: This is what is now planned for a large photovoltaic system that is to be built on the roof of the new Marienheim building in Bühlach.
Peiting
– Citizens getting involved in alternative energy projects: That's nothing new.
Such a project is now also planned in Peiting for the roof of the new Marienheim building on Bühlach.
For example, the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) has taken the well-known Munich energy cooperative BENG on board as the sponsor.
This already operates similar systems on public buildings, including in Munich, Graefelfing, Neuried, Putzbrunn and Kirchheim.
The cooperative has now started planning for the Peiting site.
The financing and the construction as well as the operation are also set up by the BENG eG.
Direct use and feed-in
The plans for the PV system, which is calculated for a total output of a whopping 149 kWp: The electricity generated from sunlight is consumed directly in the building.
The electricity not used on site is fed into the public grid and remunerated accordingly.
The annual electricity production of the system is currently calculated at 143,040 kilowatt hours.
And how does the participation process work?
Through the BENG, citizens can participate in the system.
A total of 168,000 euros is required.
Citizens can not only participate with huge sums of money.
According to information from our newspaper, participation in the cooperative project should be possible from a four-digit amount.
One thing is also certain: interested parties from Peiting have the right to pre-sign.
Everything agreed with the community
"This procedure was also coordinated with the community from the start," emphasizes Mayor Peter Ostenrieder when asked by our newspaper.
In contrast to most of the requested, fully financed and organized other PV projects in town, Peiting is now able to “have a real citizens’ PV system here in Peiting, entirely in line with the energy transition and climate protection “.
Due to the cooperative organization and a relatively low minimum contribution, this project is in the spirit of socially just, effective and affordable climate protection.
"Even if they don't have a roof themselves because they live in an apartment."
Market has been progressing for years
For years, the Peiting market has been leading the way in the creation of PV systems, the mayor emphasizes.
The municipality in the Oberland has already been the municipality with the strongest PV growth rates several times.

Ostenrieder is looking forward to a partnership with BENG eG, which has already launched more than 16 projects since 2011 and whose initiators have installed more than 40 citizen solar systems since 2022.
A total of around 2.2 megawatts of PV capacity has been installed by the cooperative to date, which is now to increase by a further 149 kWp with the Peitingen system.
Ostenrieder: "The broad participation opportunity is a real step towards the local citizen energy turnaround."
