China and Hong Kong will pass customs clearance on January 8, and Hong Kong residents in the north and south can use WeChat Pay HK to pay or take a ride in the mainland, and even sit in a hotel and order takeaways such as Hey Tea or Meituan.

Currently, AlipayHK and WeChat Pay HK are the two Hong Kong electronic wallets that are commonly used in the Mainland.

However, users must first complete the binding of bank cards, bank transfers or identity authentication in the App, otherwise they will not be able to make cross-border payments in the Mainland. If all authentications are completed, the highest balance and transaction limit can be obtained.

The following will introduce the service scope currently covered by WeChat Pay HK and the process of upgrading the authentication.

WeChat bus codes cover most cities in the Mainland

WeChat Pay HK currently supports more than 1 million merchants in mainland China, including Heytea, Tanyu, Haidilao Hot Pot, or the tourist attraction Guangzhou Chimelong.

In addition to eating, drinking and having fun, users can also use the "Travel Code" to pay fares, including buses or subways in Shenzhen or Guangzhou, covering most cities in the Mainland; they can also open "China Railway 12306" for purchasing high-speed rail tickets, "Didi taxi", Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge shuttle bus, etc.

You can use takeaways such as Meituan and Heytea in WeChat to deliver to your door

In addition to paying on-site at the merchant, users can also deliver food or drinks to their door. Take HEYTEA as an example, search for tea "Heytea" in the mini-program, and click on the takeaway and favorite drinks. After confirming that the address is correct, you can go Enter password to pay.

As for Meituan, KFC, etc., the payment process of all mini programs is also similar.

Cross-border payment does not need to be bound to a mainland bank card

Users do not need to bind a mainland bank card, RMB will be automatically converted into Hong Kong dollars for settlement, and the remittance conversion stipulated by WeChat is lower than the exchange rate of general credit cards, and the handling fee is waived.

However, it should be noted that if a credit card is used to add value to the wallet or remit money, a specific handling fee will be charged by the card-issuing bank.

Unauthenticated users cannot make cross-border payments

At present, WeChat Pay HK's electronic wallets are divided into unauthenticated, bank transfer authenticated, and face authenticated.

If one of the identity verifications has not been completed, the user will not be able to make cross-border payments in the Mainland. Therefore, it is recommended that users make preparations before customs clearance, and can choose one of the two, or complete all verifications and bindings.

The maximum annual transaction volume after certification is 200,000 yuan

In terms of transaction amount, if the user only binds a bank card or credit card, but has not completed bank transfer and face authentication, the annual transaction limit is 25,000 yuan, and the upper limit of the balance is 3,000 yuan.

However, if the bank transfer is completed (such as adding value via FPS), the annual transaction limit and balance can be increased to 100,000 yuan.

If the user completes face authentication again, the annual transaction limit can be further increased to 200,000 yuan.

Identity verification step 1: Enter the e-wallet page

Click "Me" at the bottom right of the WeChat homepage, and then click "Service" to enter the e-wallet page.

At this time, an orange reminder bar will be displayed on the top, "According to regulatory requirements, before using functions such as FPS and balance bonus, you must first complete the identity authentication upgrade."

Identity verification step 2: Verify personal mobile phone number

After clicking, the system will verify the user's payment password, and then start the procedure of authentication upgrade.

The user must first fill in the personal mobile phone number. After pressing "Send Verification Code", the mobile phone will receive a text message from WeChat. After entering and submitting the transaction, you can enter the next verification.

Identity Verification Step 3: Verify Hong Kong Identity Card

Afterwards, the user must prepare a Hong Kong ID card, and click on the old version or the new version of the smart ID card based on the collection date of the card, that is, November 2018.

The system will ask the user to take a photo of the front of the ID card at an angle such as frontal, inward or outward.

If the certificate is moved out of the frame, flipped too fast, or the light is too dark, etc., the system will ask to take another photo.

Identity Verification Step 4: Fill in Personal Information

After successfully photographing the ID, enter the page to fill in the information, including the country/region, English name, gender, date of birth, ID number, detailed residential address, and click to read and agree to the privacy policy, and then submit after confirmation.

Step 5 of Identity Verification: Accept Face Recognition

Afterwards, the user must take off the mask to accept face recognition, and the system will ask the user to blink.

After a few seconds, the page will display "Recognizing, please do not close the page".

After the identification is completed, it will display "Information has been submitted and under review", and the result will be notified through the official official account within 7 working days.

Binding Bank Step 1: Add Bank Card or Credit Card

After returning to the e-wallet page, take the binding of a bank account as an example, first click "Bank Card", then click "Add Bank Account", and click the name of the bank to be bound, and verify the payment password.

After that, you can register your personal information, including first and last name, and click to read and agree to the privacy policy, and you will enter the online banking login page.

Binding Bank Step 2: Set daily transaction limit and complete verification

Taking BOCHK as an example, after the page is transferred to online banking, the user's bank number will be displayed after login, and the daily transaction limit can be set, up to 10,000 yuan per day.

After approval and submission, BOCHK will send a SMS password to the mobile phone, and the binding will be completed after confirmation.

Final Step: Top-up e-Wallet

There are five ways to add value. On the e-wallet page, users can click "Balance" to enter the value-added page.

Users can add value through the following channels: 1) At 7-11 convenience stores, Circle K convenience stores or McDonald's, show the QR code to add value in cash;

2) Or add value with bank accounts or FPS.

However, it should be noted that after the user enters the mainland, since the local merchants do not provide Hong Kong dollar value-added services, the fastest way is to bind a credit card, and the payment can be made immediately during the transaction. There is no need to add value in advance, but a certain handling fee will be charged; Bank cards can also be directly transferred to electronic wallets in the Mainland.
