Born in Wolfratshausen, Florian Schörner has written a book about dropouts.

It is inspired by a blog and tells of great freedom.

Wolfratshausen – Out!

Get out of everyday life, the office, the hamster wheel.

This is a dream that only a few dare to realize.

Florian Schörner talks about those who did it after all.

Born in Wolfratshausen, he published a book together with a blogger, Katja Wolf: "Peace Love & Om" it says.

It tells the stories of 33 dropouts who live in converted vans.

They are stories full of courage, strokes of fate and great freedom.

Often the people who have their say in the book were faced with nothing before making their decision.

"The people in this book initially had fears and concerns before they dared to take the step into a new life," says Schörner.

He himself knows the situation.

About two years ago he was on a bus from Munich to Berlin.

He had quit his previous job.

"I didn't know what I wanted to do," he says today.

Quitting, moving, breaking up tents: these were decisions that required courage.

The 42-year-old has not regretted his decision at the time.

At the time of the great upheavals in his life, Schörner remembered Katja Wolf's blog.

She portrays dropouts on YouTube, Spotify and her own website, provides information about life in a van and attractive travel destinations.

"I found that inspiring," says Schörner.

One sentence stuck in his mind: one of the people portrayed spoke in the blog about his job, his long striving for the next rung on the career ladder.

Today he calls it the hamster wheel.

He took the plunge.

Schörner thought about it for a long time.

“A lot of us are trapped in it.

We push on and on to reach an unclear goal and yet we don't make any progress.” The people who have the courage to renounce this life – “to give up the supposed security,” Schörner calls it – are role models.

Katja Wolf has been doing this for more than five years.

She runs the largest YouTube channel in German-speaking countries on the subject of alternative ways of life.

It's called like her book.

She has accumulated 250,000 subscribers in recent years.

With the joint book, the duo took an unusual path.

"We brought the stories from the digital world into a book." Much of the content on the Internet has gone the opposite way.

Many stories read like a letter of motivation to dare to leave.

Or at least make small changes.

"These are often enough" to lead a more sustainable life, says the author.

By sustainability he does not just mean environmental aspects or social aspects.

"The people we introduce take better care of themselves," and they've regained a focus on the little things.

"With a little help, time and courage, anyone can do it," says Vicky, for example.

She worked in a large corporation, collected frequent flyer miles with jobs abroad and eventually realized that she was just going in circles with this life.

She traded in her blazer and high-heeled shoes – today she wears Birkenstocks, sometimes sneakers when she travels the world in her van.

She has already visited 18 countries in her expanded mobile home.

She's living a new life since remodeling her van.

She wanted out - and she doesn't regret it.

Florian Schörner was inspired by the stories.

After writing the book, he and his partner converted a van.

Not completely like the 33 people portrayed in Peace Love & Om.

But it's enough to travel, to get out of everyday life, to get out.
