The Tunisian Coast Guard announced today the death of five migrants, and the loss of others, after their boat sank off the Tunisian coast, while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
The Coast Guard said, according to Reuters: “A boat carrying about 30 migrants sank yesterday evening off the coast of Louata in Sfax, and 20 of them were rescued, while the remaining missing are being searched for.”
In recent months, hundreds of people have drowned off the Tunisian coast, with an increase in attempts to cross from Tunisia and Libya towards Italy.
