A surprising number of children took part in the carol singers campaign in Geretsried.

They are happy to be able to move from door to door again.

Geretsried – On three days this year, the carol singers will be going through Geretsried again on behalf of the Catholic town church.

Already on Thursday, the children dressed as the Three Kings Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar paid a visit to Mayor Michael Müller in front of the town hall.

They then delighted the St. Hedwig and Haus Elisabeth retirement homes and the assisted living facility on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße in Geretsried with their singing and a poem.

On Friday, after the sending service in Maria Hilf, they were with the citizens who had previously registered, and this Saturday they are on the road for the last time.

The campaign ends with a thanksgiving service on Saturday evening in the Holy Family Church.

Geretsried: Many children take part in carol singers

“We have a surprising number of carol singers.

There are 30 girls and boys, as many as before the pandemic," says the former pastoral officer of the parish of Maria Hilf, Manfred Waltl.

Although he is retired, he still coordinates the carol singing.

He receives support from Tatjana Guggenberger, Kerstin Franz, Martina Altenburger and other women from the two parishes of Maria Hilf and Holy Family.

There was also a gratifying number of young people who accompanied the younger children in groups of four, says Waltl.

As always, the proceeds go to the Kindermissionswerk.

This year it distributes the money mainly to institutions in Indonesia.

The motto is "Empower children, protect children".

Mayor Michael Müller thanked the around 15 carol singers who visited him on Thursday morning with the words: "You are setting a nice sign in these times".

He gave the hard-working children and young people Geretsried sweets, and Manfred Waltl he presented an envelope with a few bills.

On the door of the town hall, Johannes Schlag, one of the youth counselors, placed the blessing sticker with the letters CMB for “Christus mansionem benedicat” (Christ bless this house).

Some households wanted the sticker, others the chalk mark, Waltl explained.

The people of Geretsried are happy when the carol singers ring

Before we went on to the seniors, the children took a little time to talk to our newspaper.

Sandra (12) said that she had been a carol singer in the Holy Family for a very long time.

"The best thing for me is that people are so happy when we ring their bell," she said.

Her friend Julia (13) likes singing best and yes, also the sweets, which are distributed fairly among everyone in the evening.

One of the youngest participants, seven-year-old Paul, talked about the film about Indonesia by reporter Willi Weitzel, which all the children had previously watched.

"I think it's great that we can help the poor children," says the boy.

Nine-year-old Anna, dressed as Melchior, added that it was fun

Anyone who has not registered in time to visit the carol singers can, as in the Corona years, pick up a blessing bag with consecrated chalk in the two churches and write the blessing on their front door themselves - either during the services or in the parish office.
