At least one person was killed and 16 injured in a collision between two metro trains in Mexico City, a megacity of some 20 million inhabitants, authorities said on Saturday.

", announced on Twitter the mayor of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum.
According to the first indications, the trains collided for an as yet undetermined reason in a tunnel connecting Potrero and La Raza stations, on line 3 of the metro which crosses Mexico City from north to south.
The Mexico City Metro is regularly under fire for the lack of maintenance of the facilities.
In May 2021, the collapse of a bridge as a train passed by caused the death of 26 people and injured a hundred.
Inaugurated in 1969, it has 12 lines, 195 stations for 226 kilometers of tracks.
In 2021, it had carried 837 million passengers.
