The date has a long tradition: on Epiphany, the managers of the 58 district fire brigades meet in the Tölz Kurhaus for the association meeting to take stock of the past year.
Bad Tölz – However, there was a two-year break between the previous meeting and the one on Friday – due to the corona.
That is why the commanders and their deputies as well as the mayors as representatives of the municipalities were all the more pleased to be able to meet in person again.
For the District Fire Councilor Erich Zengerle (54) from Egling, who was elected on August 1, 2020, it was the first Epiphany meeting in this function.
Although seasoned men in blue uniforms still dominated the picture in the fully occupied Kursaal in Tölz, there are also 206 women in the district fire brigade and 308 children and youth members under the age of 18.
There are a total of 3488 members between Jachenau and Icking who ensure that fires are extinguished, that accidents are helped, that basements are pumped out in the event of flooding or that barriers are set up at events.
Happy about the first children's fire brigade in Icking
District Fire Councilor Zengerle was happy about the interest in the fire brigade at a young age.
The first children's fire brigade in the district was founded on May 14, 2022 in Icking.
"Six girls and eight boys have found each other, have joined and can thus be introduced to the fire brigade," said Zengerle.
The fire brigades in the district were alerted 2,355 times in the past year, including 200 false alarms.
There were a total of 29 major and 60 medium fires.
A large contingent went to the Tölzer "Kolberbräu" in Marktstraße on July 5, where there had been a deflagration in the kitchen.
Worse was the fire on November 25 in a house near Gaissacher Strasse in Bad Tölz, with the resident dying a week later as a result of the fire.
On the same day, there were two more complex operations: In a traffic accident, a car with five people landed in a group of trees next to the federal highway 13 and almost at the same time a large liquid manure tank slipped from a tractor onto the railway line near Reichersbeuern.
In his review, Zengerle also recalled the storm at the end of July in the northern district,
in which 100 missions "were processed", as the district fire council said.
In Geretsried alone, three aerial bombs were found and defused last year, with up to 2,000 people having to be evacuated.
Rauchenberger criticizes use in cycling races
The deployment of 21 fire brigades and more than 200 voluntary helpers at the European Championships for cyclists in August was more pleasing.
Nevertheless, at the end of the two-hour meeting in the Kurhaus, the mayor of Jachenau, Klaus Rauchenberger, complained that the fire brigades had been obliged to volunteer, although "hundreds of police officers" drove along the route before and after the race.
Zengerle explained that, to his knowledge, the use of the fire brigades had been agreed at the previous mayor's official meeting in the district office.
In any case, the television pictures of the race were broadcast throughout Europe.
Many expenses in 2023
Zengerle rated the equipment of the fire brigades in the district as very good.
Numerous new vehicles were purchased and put into service.
There were also a number of local anniversaries to celebrate.
Stefan Kießkalt, cashier in the fire brigade association for the district, also had positive things to report.
He reported a financial plus, which will be used up in the 2023 budget due to new acquisitions.
Concern after incidents in Berlin
District Administrator Josef Niedermaier, as the chief employer of the Florians’ disciples, spoke about the social importance of the weirs in the district, referring to the most recent events in Berlin.
"What's going on in our system?" he asked.
He can understand frustration and anger, but distrust of the state is by no means the right way.
He called on the firefighters as opinion leaders to support cohesion in society.
