The outdated Lech Bridge between the Premer district of Gründl and Lechbruck is to be replaced by a new building.

This winter they want to start with the first preparatory work and clear some areas.

This can lead to restrictions on the roads.

Prem/Lechbruck

– The bridge between the villages of Lechbruck and Prem has spanned the Lech for almost 60 years.

It was built in 1964 from steel and concrete, partly with old pillars and abutments.

Many a component of today's Lech Bridge dates back to 1905, the State Building Authority explained in a statement.

Over the decades, the condition of the bridge has progressively deteriorated.

In the meantime, it can no longer meet today's traffic requirements and urgently needs to be renewed.

A new bridge is planned to replace the outdated structure in the same place (we reported).

A temporary bridge is to be erected in the autumn

The plans for the new building have been known for a while.

The State Building Authority is now providing information on the current status of the project.

So one is currently working on detailed execution statistics and the construction plans for the bridge.

In addition, the temporary bridge is to be built this autumn, on which traffic can continue to roll between Gründl and Lechbruck.

After all, there should be as few restrictions as possible for road users during the construction work, according to the building authority.

In order for the workers to be able to start building the temporary bridge and the new bridge without any problems, some areas along the bank must be cleared of trees and bushes.

Due to bird protection, this clearing work is only permitted between October and February.

Beginning on the Lechbruck side

In order not to lose any time, the Füssen water management office, which is carrying out the work, wants to get started as soon as possible.

"The plan is to start this measure from mid-January," writes the state building authority.

You want to start on the Lechbruck side.

The clearing work depends heavily on how the weather develops in the winter months.

The exact execution date can therefore not yet be determined, writes the office.

As long as the workers are busy with the clearing, there may also be traffic restrictions.

The State Building Authority reports that the road may be blocked, for example.

Areas are reforested

Incidentally, when the construction work for the new Lech Bridge is complete, the cleared areas are to be reforested with native trees and shrubs.

In the course of the approval planning, a “comprehensive landscape conservation plan” was drawn up, as the state building authority explains.
