The new Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, will visit Uruguay on January 25, the Uruguayan Foreign Minister announced on Twitter on January 6.
"After accepting the invitation of President Luis Lacalle Pou, his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will travel to Uruguay on January 25,"
says one on the social network.
Center-right president Luis Lacalle Pou offered the invitation during his trip to Brasília, where he attended Lula's inauguration ceremony on January 1.
Two former heads of state of Uruguay, Julio Sanguinetti and José Mujica, also took part in this meeting in order to send a sign of unity at a time when Uruguay is torn apart with its Mercosur partners (which brings together Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) on a free trade agreement with China.

Faced with the lack of progress in the ratification of the treaty concluded between Mercosur and the European Union, Uruguay recently decided to seek a trade agreement with the Asian giant on its own.
In addition, Lula will be on an official visit to Buenos Aires on January 23 and 24 to attend the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), where Luis Lacalle Pou will also be present.
