As part of the Damascus Governorate plan to rely on alternative energy in street lighting and public parks, 1040 solar lighting devices were installed, including 850 devices in cooperation between the governorate and the Ministry of Local Administration, and 190 devices in cooperation with civil society and economic activities, in several areas of the city during the past year.
The Director of Lighting and Electricity in the Governorate, Eng. Wissam Muhammad, told SANA that 850 devices were installed in areas under the President’s Bridge, from the Mezzeh Jabal roundabout towards the Institute of Languages, Mezzeh 86 and Sheikh Saad, towards the entrance of Mezzeh 86, and in the Al-Qadam area towards the Midan Gate “the Gate Roundabout.” Towards Al-Ashmar roundabout, and from there to the camp roundabout towards the Tadamon entrance.
It also included the areas in which lighting devices were installed, according to Muhammad, “Barzeh Al-Balad, the residences of Barzeh, Al-Qaboun, the entrance to Tishreen neighborhood, in front of Al-Hamidiya market, the castle, the extension and Al-Thawra Street, and from in front of Ibn Al-Ameed bakeries until Shamdin Square and Corniche Al-Midan, and from the intersection of Al-Mujtahid roundabout Bab Musalla and the squares of Arnous, Shamdin, Bab Touma and Al-Tahrir Al-Azbekiya, Al-Iman Mosque Square, and the intersection of Al-Nasr Street.
Muhammad explained that the local community and private sector companies had a role and contributed to the installation of about 190 solar-powered lighting devices, which were installed in the areas of Al-Jisr Al-Abyad and Al-Maysat, the Barniyeh intersection, Al-Rawdah roundabout and Al-Rabwa road, next to the Children’s Hospital, and the road leading from Al-Mowasat Square to the Customs Roundabout, Al-Shahbandar Square and Corner Corner. Religion, Sobki gardens, Shekou and valiant.
