It's a medium-sized sensation: The Bundesliga volleyball team from Herrsching beat VfB Friedrichshafen 3:1 at their home premiere in the new hall.

Herrsching

– This victory equals a medium-sized sensation: WWK Volleys Herrsching won 3:1 (25:22, 22:25, 25:19, 25:22) at VfB Friedrichshafen on Saturday and thus spoiled the Häflers' home premiere in theirs new venue at Friedrichshafen Airport.

Even the defeated hosts fully recognized the underdog's victory.

"I'm super proud of my team," said head coach Thomas Ranner.

After the seventh win of the season, the people of Ammersee can continue to dream of the intermediate round of the top teams.

In the table, the Herrschinger now only rank two points behind the SVG Lüneburg.

The North Germans were undamaged on Sunday and won 3-0 against TSV Haching Munich.

Next Saturday there will be a direct duel with Lüneburg in the Audi Dome.

Probably only the boldest optimists among the Herrschinger fans had counted on something countable at Lake Constance.

On the one hand, because the hosts could show a long winning streak (last ten successes in a row) and coach Mark Lebedew could draw on the full staff.

On the other hand, because the Herrschinger staff have been more on the gums in the past few weeks.

The results from the two previous duels in the league and in the DVV Cup (each 0:3 from Herrschinger's point of view) gave no hope either.

But thanks to a "brilliant team effort" (Ranner) the Ammersee won for the first time ever in a league game in Friedrichshafen.

"We played absolutely at the limit today," said Ranner happily.

On the other hand, the hosts also had a bad day.

The Lebedev team didn't seem lively enough and made an unusual number of mistakes.

However, this should not detract from Herrschinger's performance in any way.

"We were rewarded for a great week of training," Ranner said happily.

Setter James Shaw stood out from a team effort.

The gold MVP passed on the praise politely: "It's a team award.

The team made it easy for me.” Above all, the interplay with middle blocker Maciej Borris (15 points) is getting better and better.

"He's just hot," Ranner said of the Pole.

But the other attackers Albert Hurt (15), Thiago Vanole (11) and Jonas Kaminski (10) also scored in double figures.

Diagonal attacker Kaminski converted the second match ball for WWK Volleys Herrsching after exactly 111 minutes.

After the award ceremony - the 1000 spectators quickly fled - there was a lot of talking between those responsible.

The stumbling block was a scene in the middle of the third set.

Albert Hurt had converted a Herrschinger attack to 12:10, as a result of which a confusing, gestural exchange of words developed between the Estonian and the Colombian VfB attacker Miguel Angel Martinez, who had been substituted on the net just a few seconds earlier.

The hot-blooded VfB captain Dejan Vincic came over and roughly pushed Hurt over.

The Slovenian player saw the red card from the main referee Stefan Knebel (Fuerth) (equivalent to another point for Herrsching).

The home side were briefly off the roll, which Herrsching was able to use and pull away a bit.

However, Herrsching's assistant coach Max Hauser did not want to overstate the discussions.

"Friedrichshafeners are not children of sadness either, some have a short fuse.

We showed a good reaction and didn't allow ourselves to be provoked.

It was a mental battle.”

In the first set, the hosts were in the lead for a long time, sometimes even clearly.

It took Herrsching some time to find his way around the new Bodensee Airport Arena.

But in the end James Shaw and Albert Hurt won the set (25:22).

In the second round, both teams met at eye level.

Annoying: An attacking shot by Friedrichshafen's Tim Peter, which clearly ended up wide, was given as a point for the home side.

Instead of 20:22 it was 19:23 from Herrschinger's point of view.

A short time later, the Häfler were able to equalize to win the set (22:25).

As a result, Friedrichshafen lacked efficiency, Herrsching came into play better and better and took control of the game.

Captain Dorde Ilic & Co. took sets three (25:19) and four (25:22) almost unchallenged and spoiled the hosts' home premiere in their new venue.

"The result is disappointing, but that's part of such a long season," said Mark Lebedev in a businesslike manner.

"Herrsching did a good job, so we didn't give it away," summed up the Friedrichshafen head coach.

The Häflers don't have the right time to digest the defeat anyway, as the Lebedev squad are already up for a place in the quarter-finals in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Herrschinger, who celebrated the victory properly after returning, have already focused on the upcoming league game against Lüneburg.

With a win against the former co-promoter from 2014, the Herrschinger can keep the chance of fourth place.
