New Year's resolutions often cause a flood of registrations in fitness studios in January - also in the district.

Everyone wants to start the new year healthy and fit.

Sports economist and personal trainer Nikk Viererbl explains how goals can be achieved and relapses into old behavior patterns avoided.

District

– Those who visit a gym these days usually have to have a lot of patience.

Waiting times at the various devices, hardly any trainers available - the studios are often constantly overcrowded at the beginning of the year.

The reason: the freshly made New Year's resolutions that pop up after the umpteenth round of pouring lead on New Year's Eve, or the far too good holiday meal on Christmas.

When a guilty conscience strikes, many people dare to go to the gym.

But the initial ambition and discipline often don't last long.

“In December I had initial talks with new customers who wanted to get started in the first week of January,” says Nikk Viererbl, who has been running a personal training gym on Hauptstrasse in Wessling since mid-March.

"But at the beginning of the year I was also called by people who wanted to make an appointment on January 2nd." It is important to Viererbl that his customers remain motivated and do not fall back into old behavior patterns.

“The biggest mistake many people make is wanting too much.

Be it that they plan to go to the gym six times a week or try to completely change their diet.

Small steps are the better solution.”

The qualified sports economist recommends, for example, starting with one or two training sessions per week and only adjusting breakfast at first.

"You can easily integrate that into everyday life and you don't lose motivation so quickly," says Viererbl, who has also worked in various larger fitness studios for years and knows: "The first week of January is extremely exhausting for the team." Lots of new ones Faces that, however, soon disappear again into the depths of the customer files.

Things are different in Martin Gubo's "Body workshop" in Starnberg.

“People who sign up come regularly,” he says.

And that's quite a few at the beginning of the year.

“A lot of people have made resolutions.

There's a lot going on in the gym at the moment.” Why don't his customers lose motivation?

"I think it's because of the variety we offer.

If you don't feel like strength training, you can do cardio or yoga.

It never gets boring or dull,” says Gubo, who has headed the studio, which currently has around 500 members, since 2015.

In the gym in Gilching, on the other hand, it's pretty quiet at the moment.

"That's probably because there are still holidays," says owner Frank Opis.

He has not recorded a rush since the New Year.

The number of visitors has been going uphill for months.

People missed training during Corona.” 30 percent of the members in the Aktivpark are seniors.

“They suffered from Corona in particular and are all the more pleased that they can keep their bodies fit again.” However, the studio has not yet reached the number of members it had before Corona.
