Tegernsee's Mayor Johannes Hagn threw a bottle of Prosecco into the Tegernsee on Epiphany.
Bringing them back to the surface is the task of the traditional New Year's dive of the DLRG Tegernsee.
Tegernsee
– After a two-year Corona break, the water rescuers invited again this year.
Helmut Kesslinger started the fun in 1979.
He died in 2012, and the event is still called the "Helmut Kesslinger Memorial Diving" in his honor.
New Year's fun for the hardy
The conditions were favourable: fantastic sunshine, about ten degrees air and five degrees water temperature.
24 divers climbed into the crystal clear water of Lake Tegernsee.
In addition to the DLRG rescue divers from the local branches of Tegernsee, Gmund and Bad Aibling, divers from the Seegeist Bad Wiessee diving school, the Octopus Rosenheim diving club and THW Rosenheim also took part.
Warm up in a heated tent
After a short time, a diver from THW Rosenheim grabbed the Prosecco bottle.
For the first time, the spectacle was accompanied by DLRG lifeguards and five ice swimmers from the Tegernsee ice swimmers.
The DLRG set up a heated tent to warm up.
The event ended with a barbecue at the DLRG guard station.
Tegernsee's DLRG Chairman Florian Mengele thanked the members for their commitment.
