He says he is ready to “vote a fair reform” of pensions.

Éric Ciotti, the boss of LR (Les Républicains), thinks he has been heard by the government, which must present its project on Tuesday, he declared in the Journal du Dimanche.

“The budgetary, demographic and economic situation requires this reform.

(…) I therefore wish to be able to vote for a fair reform which saves our pay-as-you-go pension system”, affirms in this interview the deputy, whose group in the National Assembly holds the key to adoption without the constitutional weapon of 49.3 .

“Politically, the right of government has always supported the need for a pension reform which leads to working a little more”, and voting for it is “a question of coherence and responsibility”, supports the elected representative of the Alps- Maritimes.

For him, the other tracks are “dangerous dead ends”.

“I refuse, for my part, to see pension contributions increase: this would lead to a drop in wages or the competitiveness of our companies.

But "to make up for (the) lost time", Emmanuel Macron "proposes in the midst of an economic and social crisis a reform which appears, in the eyes of the French, to be much too severe".

Thus Eric Ciotti asked the Prime Minister "to mitigate the brutality of the reform".

An increase in the retirement age spread out until 2032?

In his eyes, it should rather "spread over two five-year terms", with an increase in the legal age of departure to 63 years old in 2027 then 64 years old in 2032. This is what Élisabeth Borne, the chief could announce on Tuesday government, after considering 65 years.

The minimum pension of 1,200 euros programmed by the executive must apply to new entrants and also "retroactively to current retirees who benefit from the most modest pensions", which "will be one of the conditions of our vote", warns the leader of the right-wing party.

Was he heard by Elisabeth Borne, met on Thursday?

“Spontaneously, I will answer yes”, answers Eric Ciotti, who however awaits his announcements on Tuesday “with vigilance”.

“I strive to ensure that the position of our political family is, of course, unique and responsible.

I have no doubt that this will be the case, ”he adds about the different sensitivities between LR deputies and senators.
