Amelie Nießl and Luca Maier had to wait more than two years until they were crowned Olching's royal couple and Amelie I. and Luca I. could take over the regency in the city.

At the big enthronement gala of the Olching Carnival Guild (FGO) on Saturday evening, they finally received the scepter and crown.

"We were repeatedly slowed down by Corona," said Luca I. in his speech.

Amelie I. explained with tears: "For me, a childhood dream is coming true." She thanked the club for making so much possible for them despite the pandemic.

The uncrowned royal couple visited kindergartens and had outdoor performances last year.

But: “We traveled a lot alone.

That's why we're all the more pleased to be able to perform with the whole troupe again this year and to spend time with the other carnival companies," Luca I. told the Tagblatt.

The motto of this year's carnival season is "The Greatest Show".

Appropriately, Court Marshal Guido Amendt conjured the princely couple out of a huge cylinder.

For two and a half years, the show dance group "Spirit of Motion" - with 19 dancers this year more than they have been for a long time - rehearsed their choreography.

"We are proud that we can finally bring them to the stage," said Prince Luca I. before the premiere in the Amperhalle.

Not much was recognizable from the gym on the gala evening: the carnival guild had transformed it into a ballroom, which visitors entered over a red carpet.

"We carried 20 tons of material into the hall," said Amendt.

The court marshal is looking forward to the season after a two-year break: "In these times you have to make sure you're happy.

As the first official act, Amelie I. and Luca I. turned their princely waltz to the sounds of Lady Gaga's "Hold my Hand".

Mayor Andreas Magg then handed over the key to the town hall.

Normally, carnival is the last protest before Lent, he said: "This year we're turning it around.

We had days of hardship and now let it rip.” Pastor Josef Steindlmüller, however, did not want to cancel Lent.

“Other people have to decide that.” But he was pleased that the ball was so well attended.

"When I saw the queue in front of the door, I thought it would be nice if that were the case in the church."

Around 630 visitors in evening dress found their way to the coronation of the royal couple.

The Amperhalle was almost sold out.

Everyone was in a great mood, the dance floor was well filled.

Andrea and Matthias Alert also made their rounds there.

"I was a guard maid 35 years ago and I really wanted to take my husband here," said Andrea Alert.

Matthias Alert liked his premiere ball: "We like to dance and this is a wonderful opportunity for it." Günther Schinabeck said: "You can dance great, the band is great and the catering is great."

The enthronement gala was the highlight of the season for the carnival guild, but court marshal Nadja Amendt said: "There are still so many beautiful performances to come." She is particularly looking forward to the guard meeting on January 29 and the parade on Shrove Tuesday.
